This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in California, +5 more states.
• Independently oversees key components of APHL’s respiratory disease initiatives, including nurturing relationships with significant funders and partner organizations.
• Acts as a strong advocate for laboratory matters by voicing the concerns of member laboratories to federal and organizational stakeholders.
• Leverages extensive knowledge and expertise in infectious diseases and laboratory science to represent the organization in external projects, advisory committees, and meetings, while encouraging member involvement in these activities.
• Effectively selects and manages contractors and consultants.
• Facilitates the transfer of technology to member laboratories concerning respiratory and vaccine-preventable disease testing.
• Analyzes survey data and produces comprehensive reports.
• Develops policy statements, model practices, or guidance on laboratory operations as required.
• Leads the creation of workshops and other training initiatives related to respiratory disease testing activities as needed by member laboratories.
• At least 8 years of relevant experience or significant experience at the Senior Specialist level.
• Preferred background in health departments, federal agencies, member-based organizations, or the laboratory field.
• Helpful to have a background in clinical laboratory science or microbiology.
• Familiarity with public health practices, regulations, and policies.
• Knowledge of current respiratory disease laboratory methodologies and molecular diagnostic techniques; ability to stay updated with advancements in the field.
• Experience with budget development and oversight processes.
• Proficient in training development and delivery techniques.
• Strong writing capabilities with experience in creating laboratory guidance documents and scientific manuscripts.
• Excellent organizational, written, and verbal communication abilities.
• Effective project management skills; organized and detail-oriented.
• Outstanding customer relations skills.
• Proven ability to manage shifting priorities and multiple tasks under tight deadlines.
• Capability to establish collaborative relationships with diverse groups of colleagues.
• Ability to work autonomously and in a team environment, organize work assignments, and complete tasks within designated timeframes with minimal supervision.
• Moderate travel required within the United States and internationally.
