This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Virginia.
• Oversee the management of the CBP policy library, which includes document intake, indexing, version control, and the archiving of outdated materials.
• Deliver customer support to the Security Operations Division concerning policy searches and research requests.
• Perform independent research and analysis to aid in the creation of new policies.
• Verify references and authorities mentioned in policy documents.
• Evaluate whether expiring policies are still applicable, need revisions, or should be phased out.
• Develop and monitor routing sheets through the stages of review, concurrence, and final approval.
• Support web content management tasks by posting, updating, and organizing policy information on CBP websites.
• Format documents into CBP-approved templates using Microsoft Word and Adobe Acrobat Pro.
• Create presentations illustrating workflows, processes, and organizational charts utilizing Microsoft PowerPoint.
• Review and edit directives, handbooks, SOPs, memoranda, and briefing materials for accuracy.
• Maintain an up-to-date understanding of guidelines, regulations, policies, and handbooks relevant to CBP operations.
• A Bachelor’s degree in Technical Writing or a related discipline is required.
• At least 5 years of pertinent experience in technical writing/editing.
• Advanced skills in Microsoft Word, encompassing styles, templates, cross-references, tables of contents, and track changes.
• Proficient in Adobe Acrobat Pro, including tasks such as PDF creation, bookmarking, form fields, and ensuring Section 508 accessibility.
• Experience with Microsoft PowerPoint, particularly in creating workflow diagrams and organizational charts.
• Proven track record in managing a document, policy, or knowledge library with thorough version control practices.
• Capacity to conduct independent research, validate authoritative sources, and effectively summarize findings.
• Outstanding proofreading and copy-editing abilities, with a strong grasp of grammar, usage, and established style guides.
• A service-oriented approach to engaging with stakeholders and addressing research inquiries.
• Ability to collaborate effectively within Teams.
• Excellent verbal and written communication capabilities.
• Must maintain confidentiality and manage sensitive information appropriately.
• Proficient in handling multiple concurrent document tasks in a dynamic environment.
• Capability to work independently with minimal supervision in a fully remote context.
• Must be a U.S. Citizen and eligible to acquire and uphold a favorable CBP suitability determination.
• Preferred: Previous experience supporting CBP, DHS, or similar federal law enforcement or homeland security entities.
• Preferred: Understanding of federal policy document types and the agency policy lifecycle and review procedures.
• Preferred: Familiarity with routing sheets, staffing packages, or similar government concurrence processes.
• Preferred: Experience using SharePoint and web content management systems.
• Preferred: Knowledge of Section 508 / WCAG accessibility standards.
• Preferred: Background in researching statutory and regulatory authorities, including the U.S. Code, CFR, executive orders, and agency directives.
