This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in District of Columbia, +1 more state.
• Manage a portfolio of projects supported by the U.S. Government and other funding entities in a designated country or region.
• Act as the primary representative for the assigned project portfolio.
• Collaborate with HPG leadership, global project teams, Global Operations and Services, Regional Hubs, and enterprise services personnel.
• Provide direct supervision to Associate Directors, Project Managers, and/or Project Directors/Chiefs of Party.
• Oversee country-level implementation across various projects to enhance process efficiency and decision-making.
• Ensure that projects adhere to budgetary constraints and maintain financial health.
• Facilitate ongoing collaboration with donors, partners, and local stakeholders throughout the project lifecycle.
• Deliver leadership, compliance oversight, and quality assurance for the designated portfolio.
• Coordinate matrixed management, staff capacity building, support, and oversight.
• Offer management support from project initiation through to closure.
• Lead the development of work plans, budgets, country staff planning, project monitoring, deliverable creation, and project closeout.
• Act as a liaison for partners, subcontractors, vendors, collaborators, stakeholders, and donors.
• Contribute to business development efforts to sustain or expand the portfolio.
• Resolve resource conflicts and escalate issues to appropriate leadership and enterprise service teams.
• Promote innovation, encourage the adoption of best practices, and provide project management and/or subject matter expertise.
• Establish and uphold standards across projects in accordance with organizational and client specifications.
• Conduct regular evaluations of project status, actions, decisions, risks, issues, and deliverables.
• Provide metrics and analytics to aid in executive decision-making.
• Support performance management and professional growth of direct reports.
• Carry out additional responsibilities as assigned.
• Master’s Degree or its International Equivalent in Communication and Social Marketing, Economic Development, Education, Health, Nutrition, Research, Technology and Youth, or a related field.
• Generally requires 10+ years of pertinent experience with project management principles and practices.
• 8+ years of leadership experience at the department level, demonstrating strong business acumen and/or line management capability.
• Experience with managing United States Government-funded assistance and acquisition projects.
• Strong preference for experience in HIV, global health security, TB, maternal newborn child health, and/or nutrition projects.
• Familiarity with the rules, regulations, and policies pertinent to international development and non-governmental organizations.
• Proven experience in sector-specific or multi-sector project management and implementation.
• Demonstrated skills in strategic planning, staff development, and capacity building.
• Experience leading and managing intricate, strategic projects with a national/international scope.
• Fluency in English is required.
• Proficiency in a second language such as Spanish, French, Portuguese, Russian, or Arabic is preferred.
• Experience working in challenging environments.
• Project Management certification is preferred.
• Willingness to travel up to 25%.
• Ability to work in a typical office setting, spend long hours at a computer, sit and stand for extended periods, and lift/move up to 5 lbs.
• Proficient with personal computers/laptops, Microsoft Office 365, SharePoint, Zoom/Teams, mobile technology, and standard office equipment.
• Successful completion of reference checks, criminal record checks, terrorism finance screening, and related background checks.
