Professional Coding Specialist Lead – Multispecialties

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Virginia, +1 more state.

📋 Description

• Oversee, sustain, and coordinate work assignments

• Compile daily reports

• Conduct training and in-service education while serving as a coding specialist

• Execute charging and coding audits

• Collaborate with revenue cycle teams to guarantee precise, timely coding and optimal reimbursement

• Support management in daily departmental operations related to reimbursement, coding, abstracting, productivity, quality, and education

• Contribute to the development of coding policies, procedures, query materials, work queues, and training resources

• Evaluate and interpret medical record documentation, assigning appropriate ICD-10, CPT, and modifier codes

• Ensure high-quality and timely coding, charging, and abstraction for designated specialty areas

• Enhance and maintain coding knowledge through reviews, in-services, seminars, meetings, reference materials, and updates to coding manuals

• Guarantee accurate and timely data review to achieve clean bills

• Communicate with physicians and other relevant parties to gather information for precise coding

• Supervise provider documentation, audit provider coding accuracy, and provide follow-up education

• Assist Revenue Cycle Operations in claim development to resolve complex patient accounts

• Engage with both physician and non-physician providers to maximize correct coding initiatives

• Analyze and resolve missing-charge and problem-account issues through reimbursement information research


⛳️ Requirements

• High School Diploma or Equivalent

• Current HIM/Coding Certification from AHIMA or AAPC

• Four (4) years of experience in medical coding

• Understanding of provider healthcare compliance, revenue cycle operations, and auditing techniques

• Capability to mentor, educate, and train others

• Competence in meeting quality and productivity standards

• Ability to focus and maintain accuracy amidst constant interruptions

• Aptitude for prioritizing tasks and adapting to changes in the workplace and assignments

• Strong organizational and time management skills

• Knowledge of anatomy, physiology, and medical terminology

• Analytical and problem-solving abilities

• Proficiency in office software programs, including medical record and billing systems

• Capacity to sit for extended periods and operate computer and office equipment

• Ability to lift, push, or pull 10–20 pounds

• Potential for travel required

• Associate degree in Health Information Management is preferred
