Professional Coding Specialist II – Inpatient PB, Hospitalists, Med Specialties

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Virginia, +1 more state.

📋 Description

• Ensure the accurate and appropriate collection of information for coding classification systems that meet departmental, hospital, and external agency requirements.

• Guarantee proper reimbursement, compliance, and billing in accordance with coding guidelines and regulatory standards.

• Acquire comprehensive medical record documentation to facilitate accurate coding, severity of illness classification, and risk of mortality assessments.

• Collaborate with both physician and non-physician providers to promote correct coding practices.

• Investigate and resolve incomplete charges and challenging accounts by analyzing reimbursement data.

• Review and interpret medical record documentation to identify diagnoses and procedures, assigning ICD-10, CPT, and modifier codes accordingly.

• Execute quality and timely coding, billing, and account abstraction for designated specialty areas.

• Continuously enhance coding proficiency through reviews, in-services, seminars, meetings, reference materials, and updates to coding manuals.

• Accurately and promptly review data to ensure the generation of clean bills.

• Communicate with physicians and other relevant parties to gather information essential for precise coding.

• Oversee provider documentation, audit coding precision, and offer education to providers as required.

• Support Revenue Cycle Operations with claim development and management of problematic patient accounts.


⛳️ Requirements

• High School Diploma or Equivalent.

• Current HIM/Coding Certification from AHIMA or AAPC.

• A minimum of two (2) years of experience in medical coding.

• Preferably two (2) years of coding experience in a physician office setting.

• Understanding of anatomy, physiology, and medical terminology.

• Familiarity with ICD-10, CPT, and modifier coding.

• Ability to focus and maintain accuracy amidst frequent interruptions.

• Capability for independent decision-making.

• Skill in prioritizing job responsibilities.

• Competence in managing high-stress situations and adjusting to changes in the workplace.

• Proficiency in organizing and completing assigned tasks.

• Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.

• Ability to meet quality and productivity benchmarks.

• Capability to sit for extended periods, utilize computer and office equipment, and lift, push, or pull weights of 10–20 pounds.

• Visual and auditory acuity within normal ranges.

• Potential travel may be required.
