This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Alabama, +4 more states.
• Facilitate all fundamental Scrum events — including sprint planning, daily stand-ups, sprint reviews, and retrospectives — ensuring they are conducted in a timely manner, remain focused, and promote genuine inspection and adaptation.
• Foster an environment within the team that is open, non-judgmental, and trustworthy, with a strong emphasis on problem-solving and self-organization.
• Shield the team from external disruptions and unnecessary pressures during sprints, promptly escalating and addressing impediments.
• Guide the team and Product Owner on Agile requirements, backlog development, story slicing, and the definitions of ready and done, to maintain a healthy and well-prepared backlog.
• Evaluate the Scrum maturity of both the team and the organization, and coach the team towards elevated levels of maturity at a sustainable pace.
• Facilitate or support program-level ceremonies such as PI Planning, Scrum of Scrums, or cross-team synchronization in organizations employing scaled frameworks (e.g., SAFe).
• Collaborate across teams to identify, monitor, and resolve cross-team dependencies and conflicts prior to them hindering delivery.
• Standardize Scrum practices and reporting across various teams to ensure consistency while preserving team-level autonomy.
• Mentor and assist less experienced Scrum Masters by sharing facilitation techniques, coaching strategies, and organizational insights.
• Monitor and report on team and program-level metrics (velocity, cycle time, predictability, defect rates) to provide teams and leadership with an accurate, up-to-date view of progress.
• Utilize agile project management and reporting tools (e.g., Jira, Confluence) — enhanced with AI-assisted tools where available — to minimize manual reporting efforts and highlight trends more rapidly.
• Drive continuous improvement initiatives arising from retrospectives and Inspect & Adapt workshops, ensuring that action items are tracked to completion.
• Promote transparency by ensuring that Scrum artifacts and dashboards are accurate, current, and accessible to the entire organization.
• Act as the main point of contact between the Scrum team, Product Management, engineering leadership, and other departments regarding process and delivery inquiries.
• Clearly communicate team progress, risks, and blockers to stakeholders and senior leadership through regular, metrics-based updates.
• Advocate for Agile values and principles throughout the organization, influencing without direct authority to encourage the adoption of improved practices.
• Collaborate with Product Management to maintain a healthy balance between new feature development, technical debt, and quality.
• Perform other assigned duties.
• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent professional experience.
• Over 5 years of experience as a Scrum Master or in a role focused on Agile facilitation, with a track record of supporting multiple teams concurrently.
• Certified ScrumMaster (CSM) or Professional Scrum Master (PSM I/II) certification is required.
• Advanced certification is highly preferred: Advanced Certified ScrumMaster (A-CSM), Certified Scrum Professional (CSP-SM), SAFe Scrum Master (SSM), or SAFe Advanced Scrum Master (SASM).
• Proven experience in facilitating Scrum for complex, high-visibility projects or teams.
• Experience in a scaled Agile environment (e.g., SAFe Agile Release Trains) is strongly preferred.
• Familiarity with AI-powered productivity tools (e.g., Microsoft Copilot, Claude, Rovo, or similar) to enhance reporting, documentation, and daily facilitation tasks is a bonus.
• Experience in government technology at the state and local levels is highly preferred.
• Comprehensive understanding of Agile Scrum principles, practices, artifacts, ceremonies, and roles.
• Demonstrated ability to coach teams towards self-organization and enhanced levels of Agile maturity at a sustainable pace.
• Proven success in facilitating and resolving cross-team dependencies and conflicts in multi-team or scaled Agile settings.
• Exceptional communication and facilitation skills, with the capability to keep meetings focused and achieve tangible outcomes.
• Ability to mentor and develop junior Scrum Masters.
• Capacity to influence without direct management authority, both within the team and among senior stakeholders.
• Comfortable working with team and program-level metrics to narrate an honest, data-driven story about delivery.
• Proficient in using tools such as Jira, Confluence, and the Microsoft 365 Suite.
• Ability to excel in a fast-paced and evolving organizational environment.
• Willingness to travel occasionally for team or program-level events.
