• Facilitate all key Scrum events — including sprint planning, daily stand-ups, sprint reviews, and retrospectives — ensuring they occur in a timely manner, are focused, and promote genuine inspection and adaptation.
• Cultivate a team atmosphere that is open, non-judgmental, and trustworthy, while prioritizing problem-solving and self-organization.
• Shield the team from external disruptions and undue pressure during sprints, swiftly escalating and resolving any impediments.
• Guide the team and Product Owner on Agile principles, backlog creation, story slicing, and definitions of ready/done to maintain a healthy and well-groomed backlog.
• Evaluate the Scrum maturity of both the team and the organization, coaching the team towards higher maturity levels at a sustainable rate.
• Facilitate or assist in program-level ceremonies such as PI Planning, Scrum of Scrums, or cross-team synchronization in organizations utilizing scaled frameworks (e.g., SAFe).
• Collaborate across teams to identify, monitor, and resolve inter-team dependencies and conflicts before they hinder delivery.
• Standardize Scrum practices and reporting across various teams to ensure consistency while preserving team-level autonomy.
• Mentor and provide support to less experienced Scrum Masters, sharing facilitation techniques, coaching strategies, and organizational context.
• Monitor and report on team and program-level metrics (velocity, cycle time, predictability, defect rates) to provide teams and leadership with a truthful and up-to-date view of progress.
• Utilize agile project management and reporting tools (e.g., Jira, Confluence) — enhanced with AI-assisted tools where applicable — to minimize manual reporting overhead and reveal trends more rapidly.
• Propel continuous improvement initiatives arising from retrospectives and Inspect & Adapt workshops, ensuring that action items are followed through to completion.
• Foster transparency by ensuring that Scrum artifacts and dashboards are accurate, current, and accessible to the entire organization.
• Act as the main point of contact between the Scrum team, Product Management, engineering leadership, and other departments regarding process and delivery inquiries.
• Clearly communicate team progress, risks, and obstacles to stakeholders and senior leadership through regular, metrics-driven updates.
• Champion Agile values and principles throughout the organization, influencing adoption of improved practices without direct authority.
• Collaborate with Product Management to maintain a healthy equilibrium between new feature development, technical debt, and quality.
• Undertake additional responsibilities as assigned.
• Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience.
• Over 5 years of experience as a Scrum Master or in a role focused on Agile facilitation, including experience supporting multiple teams concurrently.
• Certified ScrumMaster (CSM) or Professional Scrum Master (PSM I/II) certification is required.
• Advanced certification is strongly preferred: Advanced Certified ScrumMaster (A-CSM), Certified Scrum Professional (CSP-SM), SAFe Scrum Master (SSM), or SAFe Advanced Scrum Master (SASM).
• Proven experience in facilitating Scrum for complex, high-visibility projects or teams.
• Experience in a scaled Agile environment (e.g., SAFe Agile Release Trains) is strongly preferred.
• Familiarity with AI-powered productivity tools (e.g., Microsoft Copilot, Claude, Rovo, or similar) to enhance reporting, documentation, and day-to-day facilitation tasks is a plus.
• Experience in government technology at the state and local levels is highly preferred.
• Competitive benefits and compensation package.
