This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Europe.
• Collaborative Approach: You will be part of a product squad, collaborating closely with designers, product managers, and seasoned engineers across backend, frontend, mobile, and AI disciplines.
• Evolution in Software Engineering: With AI as a driving force, the role is evolving towards comprehensive ownership—emphasizing the understanding of user challenges, influencing product decisions, rapid prototyping, and validating concepts, rather than merely coding to strict specifications.
• Collective Transition: The organization is experiencing this change as well; you are not expected to have all the answers from the outset.
• Valued Attributes: What is most important is your curiosity, adaptability, solid engineering judgment, and a true eagerness to learn new methodologies.
• Development and Support: You will be equipped with the tools, practices, and team environment necessary to grow into a product-focused, AI-enabled engineer while continuing to enhance your technical skills.
• Backend Expertise: Practical experience with Kotlin (or Java) and a web framework such as Micronaut or Spring, preferably within a SaaS context.
• Versatile Mindset: Backend is your primary stack, and you are open to venturing into web or mobile development when required by a feature.
• Familiarity with AI Coding Tools: You utilize AI coding assistants (such as Cursor, Claude Code, Copilot, etc.) in your workflow, or you are enthusiastic about adopting them, to navigate unfamiliar codebases, connect with frontend, mobile, or infrastructure, and implement small, well-structured changes outside your primary stack.
• Ownership Mentality: You consider user impact rather than just tickets. You ask, "What would genuinely benefit the user — or what would help me understand that better?" and follow through on it: whether it’s a prototype, adding instrumentation to existing features, or engaging with a PM or Customer Success — whatever the inquiry necessitates. You are involved in rolling out features and assessing their impact.
• Preferred Qualifications: Experience collaborating with designers or working directly from mockups/prototypes.
• Experience with instrumentation and experimentation (A/B testing, Grafana, Mixpanel, etc.).
• Familiarity with deployment using Kubernetes and Helm.
• Experience with PostgreSQL.
• Knowledge of messaging systems (RabbitMQ, Apache Kafka).
• Flexible Work Mode: We adopt a remote-first approach, allowing you the flexibility to work from home. However, we also highly value face-to-face collaboration. Depending on the role, you will participate in occasional team events, workshops, or meetings at our Berlin or Stuttgart offices—always with ample notice. The specific balance will be discussed during your interview.
• Work-Life Balance: We don’t want you to feel tethered to your desk. That's why we cover the costs of your E-Gym-Wellpass membership and offer job bike leasing.
• Celebrating Achievements: Anticipate working alongside highly motivated and dedicated individuals in a relaxed environment.
• Be Part of Something Greater: You will actively contribute to shaping Flip in your role. Throughout this journey, you will facilitate the rapid growth of a young tech company and progress towards your objectives; fun is assured.
• Enjoy Being a Flipster: Stay updated on regular team events and culture days that foster our community as Flipsters.
• Opportunities to Work Abroad: At Flip, you can also work abroad within the European Union. Let’s discuss remote work options during the interview.
