This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.
• Establish and continuously adjust the Canopie product roadmap, conducting tests and iterating on onboarding, engagement, clinical workflows, and partner requirements, while being accountable for product-related decisions.
• Define success in terms of outcomes such as activation, depth of engagement, clinical monitoring, and retention, and influence these metrics through product and design choices rather than simply the volume of features.
• Keep leadership well-informed by maintaining a proactive rhythm of decision-making and progress updates with the VP of Maternal Health, ensuring that priorities and trade-offs remain visible and aligned.
• Uphold ethical engagement standards: enhance activation and retention by fostering trust and providing a genuinely improved experience. Given the vulnerability of this population, the experience must earn their engagement.
• Oversee the entire design lifecycle, from discovery and user research to wireframes, high-fidelity mockups, and production-ready specifications for the Canopie product suite.
• Lead UX research with members (pregnant and postpartum women), clinicians, and health plan partners to consistently uncover insights and validate design decisions.
• Establish and maintain the Canopie design system, ensuring visual and interaction consistency across mobile (iOS/Android) and web platforms (web app and website).
• Convert clinical program requirements and partner needs into intuitive, accessible user experiences that balance engagement with health outcomes.
• Collaborate closely with engineering to ensure that designs are implemented accurately; provide clear, annotated specifications and remain hands-on during quality assurance.
• Support B2B deliverables, including partner-facing dashboards, reporting tools, and sales demonstration materials in close collaboration with the Head of Marketing and Engagement.
• Transform rough product concepts and stakeholder feedback into clear, detailed requirements and acceptance criteria.
• Write and upkeep user stories, ensuring each captures the user need, context, and definition of completion.
• Work closely with engineering during refinement to clarify requirements, resolve ambiguities, and appropriately size the scope.
• Manage and prioritize the product backlog, balancing user impact, business value, and technical dependencies.
• Facilitate discussions regarding trade-offs between design intent, engineering effort, and delivery timelines.
• Over 6 years of experience in building digital products from start to finish, with at least 3 years of owning roadmap and prioritization decisions rather than merely executing someone else's directives.
• A robust product-design portfolio showcasing that ownership in practice—complex digital products across mobile and responsive web, developed from concept to launch—preferably in a startup or small team setting.
• Experience working within or alongside clinical teams, with the capability to translate clinical logic into user-facing flows.
• Exceptional visual design skills—typography, color, layout, iconography—with a clear and distinctive aesthetic sensibility that builds upon and elevates Canopie’s existing design framework.
• Strong experience in designing for mobile (iOS/Android) and responsive web; fluency in platform conventions and accessibility standards.
• Background in digital health, clinical technology, or a consumer health product where user trust, engagement, and outcomes were central to the design process.
• Proficiency in Figma, including component libraries, auto-layout, and design system management.
• Experience in conducting and synthesizing user research (interviews, usability testing, surveys) to inform design decisions.
• Understanding of HIPAA-compliant product environments and sensitivity to designing for vulnerable populations.
• Proven experience in writing user stories and managing a product backlog using tools like Linear, Jira, or similar.
