Process Engineer – Power Infrastructure, Datacenters

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in California, +3 more states.

📋 Description

• Oversee technical initiatives related to the design, engineering, and construction of power plants that utilize natural gas reciprocating engines and/or gas turbines.

• Act as the subject matter expert (SME) for electrical systems linked to power generation facilities, covering aspects such as generator electrical interfaces, medium- and high-voltage distribution, switchgear, transformers, motor control, grounding, protective relaying, lighting, raceways, and plant auxiliary systems.

• Establish and document the electrical basis of design, create the electrical scope of work, and outline critical system requirements and performance criteria.

• Guide and evaluate technical outputs from external contractors; provide clear engineering insights and engage in design, review, and coordination meetings.

• Collaborate with various technical disciplines (mechanical, civil, controls, piping, and interconnection teams) to ensure project integration and thoroughness.

• Assist in the procurement process by drafting electrical equipment specifications, aiding in vendor selection and technical assessments, and offering vendor recommendations.

• Facilitate contractor and vendor solicitation efforts by developing technical scopes, reviewing bid packages, assessing proposals, and making equipment recommendations.

• Review engineering documents such as single-line diagrams, load lists, relay coordination studies, short-circuit studies, grounding studies, area classifications, design drawings, technical specifications, and analysis reports; actively participate in design and technical review meetings.

• Ensure designs meet relevant utility, grid interconnection, safety, and industry standards while promoting overall plant reliability, operability, and maintainability.

• Efficiently coordinate and manage multiple projects concurrently in a dynamic environment, ensuring compliance with schedule and quality benchmarks.

• Exhibit a profound technical understanding of power generation electrical systems and consistently monitor technological advancements pertinent to natural gas power generation.

• Support construction, commissioning, startup, and troubleshooting activities associated with plant electrical systems.

• Provide technical leadership across multidisciplinary teams and facilitate the development of junior engineers through mentoring, coaching, and design support.


⛳️ Requirements

• A Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited institution.

• A Professional Engineer (PE) license or equivalent is strongly preferred.

• A minimum of 8 years of progressive experience in electrical engineering positions within the power generation, oil and gas, or heavy industrial sectors.

• Extensive technical knowledge in the design, construction, and operation of natural gas power plants, including detailed familiarity with electrical systems for reciprocating engine and gas turbine facilities, covering both simple cycle and combined cycle configurations when applicable.

• Proven track record in reviewing and validating complex electrical designs from EPC contractors for large-scale projects.

• Strong expertise in medium-voltage and high-voltage power systems, generator interconnection, protection and control philosophies, relay coordination and settings development, plant distribution systems, motor control, and power system studies.

• Knowledge of relevant codes and standards such as NFPA 70, NFPA 70E, IEEE, NEC, NESC, and utility or interconnection requirements.

• Experience in leading detailed design reviews and providing technical oversight for major electrical systems on utility-scale power generation projects; engineer-of-record experience is a plus.

• Exceptional analytical, problem-solving, and critical thinking abilities.

• Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the capacity to convey complex technical concepts clearly to diverse audiences.

• Ability to work effectively within a collaborative team environment and provide strong technical leadership.
