This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.
• Define GHX’s integration patterns, which encompass outbox, saga, CDC, event-carried state transfer, dual-write mitigation, and the distinction between choreography and orchestration.
• Provide guidance on service boundary design, managing shared reference data, and preventing shared-database coupling.
• Take ownership of messaging and eventing architecture, which includes designing topics and queues, establishing schema contracts, partitioning, retention strategies, consumer groups, handling dead letters, replay capabilities, and monitoring.
• Lead the transition from GHX’s proprietary event bus to a cloud-native messaging platform.
• Advise on the trade-offs between streaming and batch processes, as well as migrations to event-driven pipelines.
• Establish standards for REST API design and oversee API governance.
• Define API transition patterns, including versioned routing, canary rollouts, and gateway configurations.
• Review service designs to ensure evolvability and assess downstream interface costs.
• Guide schema design, data modeling, datastore selection, NoSQL access-pattern design, and data ownership considerations.
• Provide counsel on ORM versus raw queries, achieving performant data access, schema evolution, replication, syndication, CDC, change streams, materialized views, and read models.
• Conduct design reviews, workshops, and office hours.
• Produce decision records, design guides, and reference implementations.
• Present architectural trade-offs and technical risks to engineering leadership, product teams, and senior stakeholders.
• Collaborate with application teams during the decomposition of GHX’s monolith into independently deployable services.
• Define long-term technical standards for system integration and data architecture.
• Minimum of 10 years of experience in building distributed systems as a hands-on individual contributor, including writing and deploying production code.
• Extensive experience with event-driven architecture and distributed systems.
• Familiarity with pub/sub and messaging infrastructures such as Kafka, AWS SQS/SNS/EventBridge, or similar technologies.
• Proficient in integration patterns including outbox, CDC, saga, and event sourcing.
• Solid understanding of idempotency, consistency trade-offs, and handling operational failures.
• Practical experience with AWS services including SQS, SNS, EventBridge, DynamoDB, RDS/Aurora, API Gateway, and Lambda.
• Strong foundational knowledge of data architecture across both relational and NoSQL databases.
• Experience in datastore selection, schema and access-pattern design, ORM trade-offs, and achieving performant data access at scale.
• Proven experience in designing REST APIs that incorporate versioning, backward compatibility, data contracts, and CI/CD contract validation.
• Direct experience collaborating with application teams during service decomposition efforts.
• Demonstrated history of establishing integration and data standards throughout an engineering organization.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills at all levels, including engineering, product, and senior stakeholders.
• Strong personal investment in AI-assisted and agentic development, with significant use of coding agents and clear examples of enhanced speed or outcomes.
