Principal Software Engineer – Core Sharing & Collaboration

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Take ownership and lead technical outcomes across various teams and organizations, driving significant customer and business impact on a large scale.

• Establish long-term technical strategies and collaborate with senior Product and Engineering leaders as the technical authority for the most critical company goals.

• Address the most complex and far-reaching technical and product challenges, influencing both the company's creations and the methodologies behind them.

• Maintain a hands-on approach in software development, overseeing and implementing the most essential, intricate, and foundational components of the system where leverage is greatest.

• Shape and align roadmaps across different organizations, addressing structural challenges and transforming how Dropbox develops and operates.

• Design and enhance foundational systems (which may include both frontend and backend architectures) and platforms that support new product functionalities and function reliably for hundreds of millions of users.

• Exhibit outstanding technical judgment and execution discipline, establishing and maintaining high engineering standards within a distributed, virtual environment.

• Propel AI adoption to boost productivity and create AI-driven features.

⛳️ Requirements

• Advanced degree in Computer Science or a related technical discipline with significant software development experience, or equivalent industry expertise demonstrating profound technical mastery.

• Over 15 years of experience in designing, building, and evolving large-scale software systems with sustainable impact across multiple teams or organizations.

• Proven success in operating at a Principal level, taking ownership of critical technical issues and influencing long-term technical strategies.

• Strong background in developing consumer-facing products at scale, with an in-depth understanding of user experience, performance, reliability, and operational excellence.

• Extensive technical knowledge across multiple domains, including frontend, mobile, search, databases, storage systems, concurrency, and distributed systems.

• Practical experience in deploying modern ML, LLM-based APIs, and agentic frameworks in production environments, with sound judgment regarding quality, cost, and risk.

• Exceptional ability to articulate complex technical concepts clearly and persuasively to senior engineering, product, and executive audiences.
