This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.
• Define and lead the technical roadmap for the Database Platform in collaboration with engineering leadership and the Pentest Platform organization.
• Be responsible for complex database architecture decisions, including schema design, partitioning, migration patterns, and scalability.
• Create design documents that establish a shared technical model for the team.
• Act as the authoritative PostgreSQL expert for aspects such as query optimization, indexing, partitioning, replication, and connection pooling.
• Design and oversee the graph-based asset model that encompasses hosts, services, credentials, and vulnerabilities throughout pentests.
• Manage schema design review processes, ensuring that migrations are secure, reversible, and executed with zero downtime.
• Develop tooling and engineering practices to support rigorous schema changes.
• Provide mentorship to P5 and P4 engineers through code reviews, design reviews, and collaborative programming.
• Collaborate with Data Ingestion, Asset Inventory, API Platform, and Security Research on data contracts, query performance standards, and architectural guidelines.
• Write production code and produce technical design documents as an individual contributor.
• Extensive, production-proven expertise in PostgreSQL, covering query planner internals, advanced indexing, partitioning, logical replication, vacuuming at scale, and connection pool tuning.
• Experience in architecting scalable multi-tenant databases, including implementing row-level security and tenant isolation.
• Proficiency in managing production schema migrations at scale, ensuring zero-downtime migrations, backwards-compatible schema evolution, and utilizing migration tools such as Flyway or golang-migrate.
• Familiarity with graph data models and graph databases like Neo4j or AWS Neptune, along with graph-like relational query patterns such as recursive CTEs, ltree, or adjacency lists.
• Skilled in Go or Python, capable of writing production application code.
• Proven track record in defining database architecture at scale, from design document to production, across various companies or teams.
• Strong understanding of data architecture trade-offs, including normalization versus denormalization, consistency versus availability, OLTP versus OLAP separation, and schema-first versus schema-last design.
• Ability to conceptualize long-term schema design and manage significantly larger data volumes.
• Proficient in clearly communicating complex database decisions in design documents, ADRs, and during cross-team reviews.
• Demonstrated capability to enforce database standards across multiple teams without direct reporting authority.
• Experience in cultivating a database engineering culture, which includes schema review practices, migration safety standards, and query performance review processes.
• Track record of developing engineers through code reviews, pair programming, and architectural mentorship.
• Background in cybersecurity data, experience with time-series databases, compliance knowledge, analytical querying or BI/reporting experience, and contributions to open-source databases are desirable.
• Minimum 25 Mbps consumer-grade broadband connection is required.
• An equity package in the form of stock options may be available.
• Health, vision, and dental coverage for employees and their families.
• Flexible vacation policy.
• Generous parental leave.
• Flexibility for remote work.
• Opportunities for career development.
• An inclusive and collaborative work culture.
