Principal Product Manager

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Lead the comprehensive product strategy and execution for a significant AI portfolio area across Capella and Couchbase Enterprise.

• Formulate strategy, roadmaps, PRFAQs, PRDs, launch plans, adoption strategies, and post-launch enhancements.

• Start from the perspective of enterprise customers, validate ideas with specific clients, and make informed build-versus-defer decisions.

• Collaborate closely with engineering teams to address architecture, scope, quality, timeline, and delivery.

• Manage design partner initiatives and create a pipeline of named reference customers.

• Coordinate efforts across Core Database, Capella, Analytics, Mobile and Edge, and AI Specialist teams.

• Equip sales, sales engineering, PMM, and partner GTM with essential positioning, demonstrations, competitive insights, and customer proof points.

• Represent owned capabilities during analyst engagements, customer briefings, keynote presentations, partner co-marketing, blog posts, and documentation.

• Leverage AI in product management research, PRFAQ drafting, customer synthesis, competitive analysis, roadmap modeling, and engineering collaboration.

• Mentor and coach PMs, contributing to interviews, calibrations, onboarding, operational cadence, and team standards.

• Deliver validated PRFAQs and PRDs, launched capabilities with measurable adoption and reference customers, defensible tradeoff decisions, effective GTM enablement, AI-driven PM practices, and a more robust PM organization.

• Report directly to the VP of AI Product Management.

⛳️ Requirements

• A minimum of twelve years in product management, including at least five years working on a technical platform such as databases, data infrastructure, developer tools, or AI infrastructure.

• Strong technical fluency in vector search, embeddings, RAG, agent frameworks, model serving, context engineering, and emerging interoperability standards.

• Ability to engage effectively with engineering on architecture discussions.

• A customer-centric approach with a rigorous working-backwards methodology; adept at differentiating universal enterprise ICP needs from distractions.

• Engineering credibility, decisive scope management, and clear ownership of tradeoffs.

• Capability to establish strong cross-functional relationships with sales, GTM, and marketing teams.

• Substantial use of AI in product management tasks, supported by concrete examples of AI-DLC practices.

• Advanced hands-on experience in building with frontier AI models, APIs, code-generation tools, MCP, agent frameworks, and contemporary developer ecosystems.

• Familiarity with Anthropic's Claude stack is highly preferred.

• Excellent written communication skills, with a proven track record of producing high-quality PRFAQs and PRDs.

• Demonstrated success in guiding products and features from PRFAQ through launch to adoption, ideally establishing a new revenue stream.

• Experience in a database, data platform, or AI infrastructure company is a plus.

• Direct experience with vector search, agent memory, RAG pipelines, model serving, or related AI infrastructure is advantageous.

• Public engagement through blog posts, conference presentations, open-source contributions, or analyst-facing work is considered a plus.

• Prior experience in mentoring or developing PMs is a desirable asset.
