This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in California, +16 more states.
• Develop high-quality, interactive prototypes to investigate new product opportunities and aid in product decision-making.
• Convert vague customer, business, and technical inquiries into concrete experiences for assessment and testing.
• Create prototypes for conversational, visual, spatial, multimodal, and agentic interfaces.
• Assess the appropriate fidelity of prototypes, ranging from technical proofs of concept to refined consumer-grade experiences.
• Collaborate with designers and product leaders to shape Zillow's consumer AI experience.
• Investigate conversational systems, dynamic interfaces, personalization, memory, recommendations, and agentic functionalities.
• Transform emerging design, research, and scientific capabilities into practical consumer interactions.
• Prototype novel interaction patterns when existing interface conventions fall short.
• Address aspects of customer control, transparency, trust, responsiveness, and quality within AI-driven experiences.
• Set high standards for interaction design, motion, responsiveness, visual polish, and experiential details.
• Team up with product designers to enhance craft and experiential quality.
• Build relationships across product design, research, product management, engineering, data science, and senior leadership.
• Collaborate with research and research-platform teams to integrate emerging capabilities into product explorations.
• Engage with agentic AI engineering and platform teams to comprehend capabilities and influence technical direction.
• Bridge the gap between design intent, product opportunity, research insight, and technical feasibility.
• Simplify complex systems through demonstrations, narratives, and functional experiences.
• Lead exploratory projects across organizational and product boundaries.
• Determine when to build directly, collaborate with product teams, or connect existing capabilities in innovative ways.
• Develop reusable technical and interaction patterns when beneficial.
• Mentor designers and technologists.
• Present work during critiques, technical reviews, customer-research sessions, and leadership discussions.
• Over 8 years of relevant experience in design technology, creative technology, interaction design, product engineering, prototyping, or related fields.
• Significant expertise in more than one relevant area.
• A portfolio or body of work showcasing technically ambitious, high-craft interactive experiences.
• Extensive experience in creating functional prototypes that have influenced product definition, customer insights, technical direction, or organizational decisions.
• Advanced front-end development skills utilizing modern web technologies and frameworks.
• Proven strength in interaction design, motion, prototyping, and consumer-product craftsmanship.
• Experience with emerging technologies such as generative AI, conversational systems, agentic architectures, multimodal interfaces, machine learning, or dynamic user interfaces.
• Capability to work effectively with product designers, researchers, engineers, data scientists, product managers, and senior leaders.
• Experience in independently leading ambiguous, cross-functional initiatives from initial exploration to meaningful outcomes.
• Strong written, verbal, and visual communication skills.
• Nice to have: Experience integrating AI- or machine-learning-powered functionalities into consumer products.
• Nice to have: Familiarity with LLM orchestration, retrieval systems, tool utilization, memory, evaluation, generative UI, or agentic interaction patterns.
• Nice to have: Experience collaborating directly with applied research, machine learning, or data science teams.
• Nice to have: Experience prototyping across web, native mobile, voice, spatial, or multimodal environments.
• Nice to have: Experience with creative coding, animation systems, game engines, real-time graphics, 3D, or emerging interface technologies.
