Principal Mobile Engineer, POS Terminal

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Kenya.

📋 Description

• Oversee the design and architecture of POS terminal solutions, ensuring security, scalability, performance, and integration with hardware and payment systems.

• Create and maintain architectural documents and diagrams for POS terminal systems.

• Make architectural choices regarding POS terminal software, integrating payment technologies, EMV standards, and hardware compatibility.

• Lead the development efforts for applications related to POS.

• Enhance system performance and security concerning payment processing and EMV protocols.

• Engage in planning sessions alongside product and engineering teams.

• Conduct code reviews to ensure adherence to best practices in mobile and embedded systems development.

• Establish and uphold software engineering best practices across POS and related teams.

• Ensure the stability and reliability of POS terminal products and applications through effective monitoring and troubleshooting.

• Offer technical guidance and mentorship to engineering teams.

• Participate in the hiring process and evaluate candidates with expertise in POS, mobile, and embedded development.

⛳️ Requirements

• A minimum of 8 years of experience in system design, architecture, and development, particularly within the POS terminal sector.

• Strong proficiency in Android Native development (Java/Kotlin), with a comprehensive understanding of Android-based POS terminal solutions.

• Experience in cross-platform mobile development, including Flutter.

• Familiarity with C and JavaScript for POS application platforms is advantageous.

• In-depth knowledge of EMV security protocols, encompassing chip-based transactions, encryption, and key management.

• Experience with hardware integration for POS devices, such as card readers, pin pads, printers, and other peripherals.

• Extensive understanding of payment systems architecture, including integration with payment processors and gateways.

• Awareness of software quality assurance principles and their application within financial systems.

• Exceptional problem-solving capabilities, with the ability to manage complex system interactions and adapt to evolving requirements.

• Strong communication skills, able to articulate intricate technical concepts clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences.

• Leadership qualities focused on mentoring engineers and advancing process improvements within the team.
