Principal Infrastructure Architect – Data Platform

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Maryland.

📋 Description

• Collaborate with ZoomInfo's data engineering team as the counterpart for infrastructure architecture.

• Create and uphold infrastructure-as-code, CI/CD, monitoring, alerting, performance, and cost strategies for data teams.

• Develop reference designs for streaming, messaging, databases, analytics stores, search, orchestration, processing, and open table formats.

• Specify CI/CD and GitOps frameworks for data jobs and pipelines.

• Establish patterns for performance, cost, observability, backup, restore, and disaster recovery, including RTO/RPO objectives.

• Conduct proofs of concept for new data technologies and vendor solutions.

• Define secure connectivity models between managed data services and ZoomInfo's GCP environment.

• Assist in data consolidation, governance, classification, residency, and access policy initiatives.

• Create reference implementations, document ADRs, and collaborate with responsible teams on deployment.

• Engage in weekly architecture reviews, enhance standards and ADR libraries, and offer infrastructure consulting.

• Lead design reviews and workshops, empowering data teams to navigate complex infrastructure decisions.

⛳️ Requirements

• Proven experience in architecting production environments on GCP and/or AWS beyond just data services.

• Familiarity with compute and Kubernetes, including GKE or its equivalent, for data workloads.

• Knowledge of VPC networking and private connectivity to managed services.

• Experience with IAM and workload identity management.

• Proficient in Terraform and GitOps practices, including the design and review of modules.

• Capability to assess service-mesh or network designs during architecture reviews.

• Practical experience in building and managing infrastructure for data platforms at scales ranging from multi-terabyte to petabyte.

• Extensive production experience in at least two data domains: streaming and stream processing; relational operational databases; NoSQL; columnar analytics and lakehouse; search; and pipeline orchestration and processing.

• Solid understanding of remaining data domains to swiftly evaluate, review, and learn them.

• Proven ability to diagnose and resolve issues in costly or slow data workloads.

• Skill to delve into code, validate patterns, and test performance under load.

• Experience in conducting thorough technology evaluations utilized by engineering leadership and procurement.

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, a related technical discipline, or equivalent practical experience.

• 10–15+ years of experience in cloud infrastructure, platform, or data infrastructure engineering.

• Several years of experience in establishing patterns and standards relied upon by multiple teams.
