Principal Health Data Scientist

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Act as the primary lead for programming, analytics, and statistical methodologies while collaborating with teams of health services researchers and business analysts to extract insights and intelligence from extensive administrative claims datasets, electronic medical records, and various healthcare registry datasets.

• Recognize and formulate solutions to key strategic business challenges utilizing advanced modeling and statistical analysis techniques.

• Employ SQL for advanced data extraction, transformation, and management; thoroughly document and maintain a library of source code and algorithms for future reference.

• Identify, develop, and validate hypotheses to support research and product initiatives, effectively communicating findings in a clear, concise, and actionable manner to clients.

• Lead and respond to intricate operational data requests and generate ad-hoc queries to assist research projects.

• Provide quality control and quality assurance for projects where not serving as the lead, including solution-oriented approaches and mentoring for cross-functional training across project teams.

• Serve as the lead while closely collaborating with Inovalon’s Enterprise Data Management, Data Integration, MORE2 Registry®, and iPORT+™ teams to pinpoint, comprehend, and resolve data issues, enhancing the efficiency, productivity, and scalability of Avalere and Inovalon product and production data processes.

• Address complex production-related issues and coordinate successful resolutions.

• Assist in evaluating data analytic vendors and tools.

• Ensure compliance with Inovalon’s policies, procedures, and mission statement.

• Adhere to all confidentiality and HIPAA requirements as outlined in Inovalon’s Operating Policies and Procedures at all times regarding any aspect of the data managed or services provided in this role.

• Fulfill responsibilities and duties that may be reasonably assigned by Inovalon to achieve the operational and financial success of the Company.

⛳️ Requirements

• Over 7 years of professional experience in healthcare or pharmaceutical sectors, working with administrative claims data and big data.

• Proficient SQL programming skills including experience with the Snowflake cloud data platform, alongside familiarity with statistical analysis tools such as SAS, R, and/or MatLab.

• Proven high-level problem-solving, analytical reasoning, and decision-making abilities.

• Strong understanding and experience in identifying and resolving data issues with a logical, instinctive, and solution-oriented mindset while handling large, complex, and incomplete datasets.

• Business analytical skills (process flows, procedures, spreadsheets, modeling, etc.) and a solid grasp of design and architecture principles.

• Demonstrated excellent project management capabilities, able to work independently on multiple projects with competing priorities while showing a strong commitment to achieving goals and deadlines.

• Exceptional analytical skills with the ability to comprehend and interpret results based on advanced statistical methods.

• Strong written and verbal communication abilities within IT and business environments; capacity and readiness to communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical audiences.

• Ability to work with minimal supervision in a fast-paced multidisciplinary setting.

• Advanced knowledge of healthcare, health policy, pharmaceuticals, medical devices, and related topics.

• Outstanding customer service reflected in high-quality work products and project management.

• Strong capability to manage challenging client interactions.

• Proficient in troubleshooting and recommending solutions.

• Ability to translate complex information for a diverse range of clients.
