Principal Engineer – Talent Pipeline

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Canada.

📋 Description

• Conceptualize and design comprehensive solutions for intricate, enterprise-level projects encompassing front-end, back-end services, APIs, data pipelines, and cloud infrastructure.

• Offer technical guidance throughout the entire stack and ensure alignment of solutions with business goals.

• Create and implement scalable, secure, maintainable, API-first, cloud-native, and modular systems.

• Take ownership of technical decisions regarding UI architecture, service design, data modeling, and infrastructure setup.

• Convert backlog requirements into specification-driven criteria for autonomous coding agents.

• Integrate user stories, site maps, content strategy, design systems, and brand strategy into development specifications.

• Architect solutions that incorporate LLM APIs, RAG pipelines, and agent orchestration frameworks.

• Integrate AI-driven APIs, LLM-based features, RAG experiences, and AI-enhanced developer workflows.

• Design microservices, APIs, composable architectures, back-end services, data pipelines, and integrations.

• Implement design systems, content models, component libraries, and accompanying back-end services.

• Ensure performance, observability, caching, and data integrity throughout system layers.

• Utilize containerization, orchestration, serverless patterns, and infrastructure-as-code as necessary.

• Influence engineering culture and standards across teams and practices.

• Mentor engineers in architecture, specification-driven development, AI-assisted workflows, and engineering excellence.

• Collaborate with Technology Directors, Engineering Managers, Product, UX, project managers, clients, and cross-functional stakeholders.

• Manage delivery risks, timelines, and expectations alongside project managers and clients.

• Articulate complex technical and AI concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences.

• Engage in concise FDAIC initiatives to pinpoint client growth opportunities while achieving immediate objectives.

⛳️ Requirements

• Over 10 years of full-stack software engineering experience with Staff or Lead-level technical leadership.

• Expertise in TypeScript and modern JavaScript.

• Practical experience with React, Next.js, and Node.js or similar environments.

• Capable of designing, building, and maintaining RESTful and/or GraphQL APIs and back-end services.

• Experience with relational and/or NoSQL databases, schema design, query optimization, and data modeling.

• In-depth knowledge of API design, microservices, cloud-native architectures, and MACH/headless composable systems.

• Extensive experience with cloud platforms; GCP preferred, with AWS or Azure valued.

• Familiarity with Docker, Kubernetes, and serverless computing.

• Knowledge of Git, CI/CD workflows, and production deployment practices.

• Strong foundational skills in system design, including API contracts, data flow, caching, authentication, and performance optimization.

• Hands-on production experience with AI coding agents, such as Claude Code or GitHub Copilot.

• Proficient in prompt engineering and capable of writing agent specifications.

• Demonstrated real-world application development experience with LLMs like Claude Opus, Gemini, or GPT-4/5.

• Experience with vector stores and RAG-driven applications.

• Familiarity with Agent Development Kits such as Google ADK or similar orchestration frameworks.

• Knowledge of Vertex AI, Google Gen AI APIs, or equivalent tools.

• A genuine curiosity and enthusiasm for Generative AI.

• Proven track record in leading complex enterprise-scale software projects with significant autonomy.

• Ability to mentor engineers, resolve technical disputes, and promote alignment.

• Outstanding written and verbal communication skills.

• Strategic problem-solving ability with comfort in translating ambiguous goals into technical direction.

• Experience working effectively within fully remote, distributed teams.

• Background in consultancy or professional services is highly preferred.
