Principal Engineer, Software

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in California, +2 more states.

📋 Description

• Create and prototype a generative AI experience aimed at expediting the development of autonomy.

• Collaborate closely with the Office of the CTO to refine the vision of the Hivemind product and its accompanying documentation.

• Oversee the user experience design for Hivemind Generative AI.

• Work in tandem with technical leads from Hivemind Commander (mission planning, command and control, air-ground communications) and Hivemind Design (configurations, test and evaluation, rehearsal, analysis) to improve the user experience of their offerings.

• Perform user research to gain insights into user personas and their requirements.

• Analyze competing products and their user experiences, synthesizing findings to present to engineering and product leadership.

⛳️ Requirements

• 15+ years of experience in developing large-scale, production-quality software systems.

• Strong understanding of software development and coding principles, demonstrating high productivity in a mainstream programming language (e.g., Typescript, C++, Go, Python, Rust, etc.).

• Solid knowledge of modern software engineering best practices; experience with Git and code management tools; maintain good software hygiene concerning code documentation, unit testing, and bug tracking.

• 5+ years of experience in React/Node/Typescript/Javascript development.

• 5+ years of experience in web application development ("Front-End" or "Full-stack").

• Comprehensive understanding of full-stack web development (Document-Object Model (DOM), browser APIs, standards, semantics, Websockets, HTTP Streaming and Server-Sent Events (SSE), client and UI state management; best practices and strategies as they apply to React-based rendering, advanced SPA routing, URL-based state persistence, sharing mechanisms, seamless content loading states, and progressive rendering techniques).

• Experience in multi-modal input handling (text, files, images, audio) and client-side LLM Context Management.

• Possess fluid intelligence that enables effective operation in ambiguous conditions while identifying opportunities to drive technical initiatives and enhance productivity.

• Familiarity with Linux, Docker, and CI/CD environments.

• Hands-on experience with a major cloud platform (Azure, GCP, AWS).

• This position requires travel to a Shield AI location 1-3 times per quarter.
