Principal Engineer – Packaging Equipment

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Illinois, +1 more state.

📋 Description

• Provide technical leadership to identify and formulate strategies and projects that yield the greatest business value for the company.

• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to assess requirements and create optimized technical solutions that address business needs.

• Identify, develop, implement, and govern key strategies and programs across the manufacturing platform.

• Utilize subject matter expertise, collaborate with third-party engineering partners, and engage with original equipment manufacturers to design automation projects that reduce labor and save costs.

• Remain informed about industry regulations and codes pertaining to packaging equipment system design and operations, offering recommendations to enhance programs, policies, and objectives.

• Provide technical and economic feasibility analyses to support business initiatives that create competitive advantages.

• Develop comprehensive Front End Loading packages that are clear, complete, and demonstrate due diligence to ensure project success.

• Collaborate with engineering teams to define cost, schedule, risk, and startup requirements for projects.

• Troubleshoot and promote continuous improvement of existing packaging operations.

• Lead enhancements in machine design and modifications to equipment.

• Conduct assessments and surveys at production plant sites, providing support as needed.

⛳️ Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Robotics Engineering, or Packaging Engineering.

• Over 7 years of experience in food manufacturing, specifically in packaging system design.

• Proven experience leading teams and addressing complex technical challenges.

• Subject matter expertise in one or more aspects of food production line packaging equipment.

• Experience in machine design and working within a United States Department of Agriculture or Food and Drug Administration regulated manufacturing environment.

• Demonstrated success in developing and implementing automation and robotic solutions.

• Experience in project engineering and executing projects effectively.

• Knowledge of continuous improvement methodologies within engineering design.

• Experience in translating project requirements into technical solutions using sound engineering principles.

• Strong background in packaging equipment engineering and its practical applications.
