Principal Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in India.

📋 Description

• Oversee the long-term technical vision for Payments, Scheduling, Forms, Business Experience, and RCM application platforms, ensuring that architectural choices position Weave for scalability, reliability, and competitive edge.

• Promote architectural consistency across diverse teams while identifying and addressing cross-system dependencies and technical debt at the platform level.

• Lead technical evaluations for significant initiatives, including build-vs-buy analysis, vendor assessments, and platform transitions.

• Recognize and address technical challenges at the company level that extend beyond organizational boundaries—issues that are too intricate, widespread, or unclear for any individual team to manage.

• Gather information from various systems, teams, and projects to create all-encompassing solutions with thorough validation, rollback, and testing strategies.

• Predict project expenditures in terms of time, money, and opportunity cost; consider impacts throughout the organization.

• Keep an eye on industry trends, foresee the direction of high-scale customer experience and transactional platforms, and ensure Weave remains at the forefront.

• Distinguish between noise and genuine strategic value; champion and direct key initiatives that prepare Weave for upcoming challenges.

• Establish company-wide standards for engineering excellence, observability, and reliability in distributed systems.

• Provide active mentorship to Staff and Senior Engineers within the fellowship, nurturing the next generation of technical leaders.

⛳️ Requirements

• 15+ years of experience in software engineering with an evolving scope of technical leadership.

• Proven history of steering cross-team technical initiatives that resulted in measurable business success.

• Demonstrated capacity to influence without direct authority, foster consensus across organizational lines, and communicate technical tradeoffs in business language.

• Extensive knowledge in distributed systems architecture, including the development and operation of services managing hundreds of millions of transactions and terabytes of data.

• Established experience with event streaming and messaging infrastructure (such as Kafka, Google Pub/Sub, or comparable) at significant scale.

• Strong background in scalable data storage solutions—both relational (PostgreSQL at scale, Vitess, Spanner) and NoSQL (Bigtable, Redis, etc.).

• Operational expertise with cloud-native infrastructure on GCP or AWS, including Kubernetes, infrastructure-as-code, and high-availability system design.

• Solid foundation in backend engineering (Go preferred; Python, Java, or C# are acceptable).
