Principal Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Develop, sustain, and expand a dynamic portfolio of business in environmental investigation, remediation, compliance, and related consulting services.

• Generate new business opportunities through networking, participating in conferences, engaging with industry associations, targeted outreach, and leveraging existing client relationships.

• Lead the strategy for proposals, including scope development and pricing.

• Balance business development efforts with senior technical and project leadership in a seller-doer capacity.

• Identify strategic market opportunities, client needs, and new service lines.

• Act as Principal-in-Charge or senior technical lead for intricate environmental, geologic, or engineering projects.

• Provide technical oversight, encompassing data interpretation, modeling, remedy evaluation, design, and implementation.

• Review and authorize work plans, RI/RA deliverables, remedial action alternatives, remedial action designs, and technical reports.

• Collaborate with the in-house LSRP to ensure alignment with NJDEP regulations, project defensibility, and overall success.

• Manage project financials, schedules, staffing, and resource planning effectively.

• Serve as a trusted advisor to clients in the industrial, commercial, municipal, and legal sectors.

• Lead client meetings, technical discussions, and strategic project planning sessions.

• Facilitate regulatory interactions, which include preparing clients for NJDEP communications and assisting with project pathway negotiations.

• Mentor junior and mid-level staff, providing guidance in technical and professional development.

• Advocate for technical excellence, responsiveness, collaboration, and exceptional client service.

• Support recruitment and talent development to enhance the Land Quality & Remediation practice.


⛳️ Requirements

• Bachelor’s and/or Master’s degree in Environmental Engineering, Civil Engineering, Geology, Hydrogeology, or a related scientific discipline.

• Over 15 years of pertinent environmental consulting experience.

• An active New Jersey PE or PG license is mandatory.

• Proven experience in delivering environmental site investigation and remediation services involving soil, groundwater, soil vapor, indoor air, and sediment.

• A verifiable and recurring book of business with established clients and revenue.

• Demonstrated success in a seller-doer model, including the ability to win work and deliver complex projects.

• In-depth understanding of NJDEP regulations, Technical Requirements, SRRA, remediation standards, and New Jersey-specific compliance pathways.

• Familiarity with adjacent state programs (PA, NY) and emerging contaminants is highly preferred.

• An entrepreneurial mindset with strong commercial acumen.

• Exceptional written, verbal, presentation, and relationship-building skills.

• Strong project management and organizational capabilities, with the ability to manage multiple priorities effectively.

• Proven professional judgment, attention to detail, and a history of producing high-quality work products.

• Current or completed 40-hour OSHA HAZWOPER and 8-hour refresher training.

• Established professional network within industrial manufacturing, real estate, energy, brownfield redevelopment, and/or municipal markets is preferred.

• Experience with vapor intrusion, groundwater remedy optimization, sediment remediation, and emerging contaminants is preferred.

• Experience in building, leading, or scaling a regional or state-level practice is preferred.

• Familiarity with Deltek or similar project management systems is preferred.

• Must be eligible to work in the United States based on the Remote, USA location.
