Principal Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in India.

📋 Description

• Oversee the complete architecture for a high-concurrency and high-availability platform services, from the design phase to production operability.

• Define and promote the use of architectural patterns such as event-driven microservices, multi-tenant SaaS, and distributed locking/coordination across various engineering teams.

• Collaborate with Product, Risk/Compliance, and cross-functional engineering teams (Payments, Onboarding, DevOps) to transform business objectives into platform capabilities.

• Establish and advocate engineering best practices, including blameless post-mortems, proactive health monitoring, and structural improvements over crisis management.

• Mentor senior and staff-level engineers directly; serve as a catalyst for technical decision-making throughout the organization.

• Reduce operational toil by implementing automation, self-service tools, and platform abstractions that allow other teams to operate more efficiently on their own.

• Represent the engineering team in architecture reviews, technical due diligence, and cross-organizational planning.

⛳️ Requirements

• A minimum of 7 years of professional software engineering experience, demonstrating a history of managing systems at scale in a production environment.

• Proven success in architecting and scaling backend platforms capable of handling significant user growth (e.g., 10x-20x) or transaction volumes, preferably in fintech, payments, or another regulated sector.

• Extensive knowledge in distributed systems design, including microservices, asynchronous workflow orchestration (e.g., Temporal or equivalent), event-driven architecture, and data consistency trade-offs.

• Strong practical experience with at least one of Java or Python, along with the ability to review and guide code across multiple languages and stacks.

• Familiarity with cloud infrastructure and platform tools (AWS, Kubernetes, Terraform, CI/CD pipelines) as well as observability stacks (Prometheus, Grafana, Datadog, or similar).

• Proven capability to lead cross-functional engineering projects and mentor engineers effectively.

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills; comfortable facilitating alignment among engineering, product, and compliance stakeholders.

• Experience with enterprise ERP integrations (SAP, Oracle, or similar) is advantageous, particularly regarding master data synchronization and financial workflows.

• Practical experience with agentic development is essential; you regularly utilize and orchestrate AI coding agents (e.g., Claude Code, Cursor, GitHub Copilot Agent Mode) as part of your daily engineering practices, rather than merely as an occasional autocomplete tool.

• Working knowledge of ETL and data pipeline design is a plus; hands-on experience with AWS Glue is preferred.

• Familiarity with SFTP/EDI, webhooks, API gateways, and batch reconciliation.
