This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Illinois, +3 more states.
• Take ownership of the technical direction and architecture across multiple teams developing API functionalities.
• Establish engineering practices that teams utilize for development.
• Define the design and governance standards for APIs at scale.
• Spearhead the initiative to integrate AI-powered features into the developer experience.
• Oversee the design and implementation of AI functionalities within the developer platform.
• Architect and create MCP servers that present the enterprise API catalog as a queryable context.
• Engage in architecture reviews, design documentation, and pull requests.
• Over 10 years of experience in software engineering, with a significant amount spent on designing and implementing APIs at an enterprise level.
• More than 5 years of direct experience in API security, including OAuth 2.0, OIDC, mTLS, rate limiting, and API threat modeling.
• At least 5 years of experience working with API gateway products and API management platforms (e.g., Apigee, Kong, Azure APIM, or equivalent).
• Minimum of 5 years of backend development experience in Java/Spring Boot and/or Node.js.
• Over 5 years of experience with major public cloud platforms (GCP, AWS, or Azure), including the networking and identity components necessary for secure API delivery.
• At least 3 years of experience influencing technical direction across various teams in a principal, staff, or architect-level role.
• A minimum of 3 years partnering with product management, architecture, and program management to shape roadmaps and deliver complex platform capabilities.
• Experience in building or managing an API catalog, developer portal, or internal developer platform.
• Familiarity with GraphQL schema design and federation at scale.
• Experience with established CI/CD practices, source control, automated testing, and contract-first API development.
