Principal Electrical Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in North Carolina.

📋 Description

• Develops technical design specifications and designs power and electronic subsystems for mission-critical power protection applications.

• Provides comprehensive support for system and hardware design and validation throughout the entire lifecycle.

• Takes ownership of Electronics (Embedded/PCBA) and Software projects.

• Utilizes extensive knowledge in analog and digital circuit design, magnetics, and thermal management.

• Leads electrical engineering design for various power protection systems, both in production and under development.

• Serves as project leader and senior member for new product development initiatives.

• Creates and oversees design documentation, including bills of materials and schematics.

• Engages in system-level design, component selection, simulation, tolerance analysis, variance assessment, and power dissipation (both conducted and switching).

• Effectively conveys complex technical solutions and concepts to both engineering and non-engineering audiences.

• Offers leadership, mentoring, coaching, and support to electrical and R&D team members.

• Participates in the formulation of strategic innovation and technology plans.

• Assists in achieving product safety certifications in collaboration with partnering NRTL (UL, CSA, IEC standards).

• Aids in developing intellectual property strategies, strategic invention disclosures, and securing patents for the Power Protection division.


⛳️ Requirements

• A Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering (BSEE) is required.

• A minimum of 6 years of experience in electrical design is necessary.

• A Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering (MSEE) or equivalent, along with 4+ years of relevant work experience, is preferred.

• Over 10 years of experience with power systems, electronics, or power electronics design is preferred.

• Familiarity with ECNs, BOMs, product documentation systems, AutoCAD, Altium, dFMEA, and HALT is preferred.

• Strong laboratory skills and problem-solving capabilities are preferred.

• Experience with UL, IEC, and general EMC electrical safety standards pertinent to power protection product design is preferred.

• A solid understanding of the theory and application of magnetics used in power conversion is preferred.

• Knowledge of wide-bandgap (WBG) switching devices, including simulation and application experience, is preferred.

• Experience in control theory and embedded programming is a plus.
