Principal E-Commerce Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Texas.

📋 Description

• Design, build, operate, maintain, and enhance our eCommerce infrastructure focused on Shopify and associated systems to facilitate customer-facing storefront experiences and internal operational processes.

• Spearhead the design, execution, and ongoing management of integrations, services, and workflows that cover the complete commerce lifecycle, including product catalog, checkout, payments, subscriptions, order management, fulfillment, refunds, and post-purchase interactions.

• Establish and promote best practices in eCommerce engineering concerning system design, observability, reliability, performance, maintainability, and security.

• Provide hands-on technical leadership to team members, contractors, and partners involved in building and supporting these systems.

• Influence architectural decisions and ensure cross-functional technical alignment across software, mobile, eCommerce, operations, DTC marketing, and partner-facing systems.

• Ensure that security, compliance, and best practices are upheld across commerce systems and payment workflows, particularly in integrations involving customer accounts, transaction processing, and downstream operational systems.

• Take ownership of and continuously enhance the technical implementation and ongoing operation of attribution, analytics instrumentation, conversion tracking, and related data flows throughout the commerce funnel.

• Collaborate with DTC marketing and relevant stakeholders to guarantee that landing pages, campaign tracking, event instrumentation, and attribution inputs are implemented reliably, sustained over time, and accurately measure funnel and channel performance.

• Oversee and enhance the observability, reliability, and performance of commerce, payment, attribution, and analytics workflows in production while proactively identifying and resolving operational issues, platform gaps, and data integrity concerns.

• Recognize technical risks, scalability bottlenecks, platform gaps, and analytics or attribution reliability issues early on, and actively pursue solutions that support both short-term commercial growth and long-term platform requirements.

⛳️ Requirements

• 8+ years of experience in software engineering, with substantial expertise in eCommerce systems.

• Extensive hands-on experience with Shopify, including custom storefront development, APIs, app integrations, and understanding platform limitations.

• Strong background with Stripe and production-grade payment processing systems.

• Profound knowledge of eCommerce architecture, including checkout flows, order lifecycle, refunds, subscriptions, discounts, taxes, and transaction edge cases.

• Experience in implementing, maintaining, and operating analytics instrumentation, attribution systems, event tracking, or related marketing technology integrations in live eCommerce environments.

• Proven experience in designing and managing reliable, scalable production systems.

• Familiarity with modern web application architecture and performance optimization for conversion-sensitive customer experiences.

• Experience in integrating eCommerce platforms with third-party systems such as ERP, OMS, WMS, CRM, analytics, support, or marketing systems.

• Demonstrated capability to lead significant technical decisions across systems, services, and teams.

• Excellent communication skills and the ability to collaborate cross-functionally with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

• Proven ability to work independently and set technical direction while remaining hands-on.
