Principal Design Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in New York.

📋 Description

• Develop high-fidelity, coded prototypes and interactive models that effectively illustrate intricate, AI-driven workflows and clearly convey product direction.

• Take ownership of significant initiatives from conception to production, delivering experiences that embody robust design thinking, technical precision, and a comprehensive understanding of client workflows.

• Facilitate technical design discussions, make architectural choices, and steer cross-team implementation efforts.

• Enhance AlphaSense’s design system as a vital component of product infrastructure—establishing scalable patterns, ensuring consistency, and expediting team efforts in building AI-native experiences.

• Work closely with product managers, engineers, and other stakeholders to investigate and assess user requirements, translating them into effective designs while ensuring that the final product satisfies both user and business needs.

• Collaborate with engineering teams during the development phase, advocating for design excellence and user experience by promoting design fidelity and meticulous attention to detail throughout the development lifecycle.

• Serve as a senior leader within the Design team, mentoring designers and engineers, elevating the standard of craftsmanship, and contributing to a robust, collaborative design culture.

• Act as a connector across design, product, and engineering—assisting teams in navigating trade-offs between technical limitations, business objectives, and user experience to achieve high-quality results.

⛳️ Requirements

• Over 12 years of experience in product design, design/UX/front-end engineering, design systems, or a related field.

• A bachelor’s degree or higher is required, preferably in design, computer science, information sciences, psychology, or human-computer interaction.

• Practical experience with contemporary front-end technologies (e.g., HTML/CSS, JavaScript/TypeScript, React) and developing design systems.

• Experience in creating AI and agentic experiences, with an emphasis on utilizing AI to enhance and streamline your end-to-end design and development workflow.

• Proficiency in modern AI technologies and the capability to apply them to design challenges (e.g., MCP, Claude Code, Codex, Skills).

• Experience in delivering production-ready experiences and influencing technical and design decisions across teams.

• Strong grasp of user-centered design principles, comprehensive customer workflows, and the ability to convert new users into habitual users.

• Exceptional communication and collaboration skills with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

• Proven experience in project leadership, mentorship, and offering constructive feedback to support professional development.
