Principal Cloud Architect

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Colorado.

📋 Description

• Take responsibility for Aetna Technology's cloud reference architectures, which encompass landing zones, account/subscription structures, networking, identity, and workload patterns.

• Establish multicloud workload placement strategies across AWS, GCP, and Azure.

• Design and uphold paved-road golden patterns, modules, and guardrails.

• Address intricate cross-cutting cloud design choices across the portfolio.

• Integrate zero-trust principles, identity management, and network segmentation into reference architectures.

• Define standards for resilience, availability, failure isolation, and blast radius.

• Oversee cloud cost architecture and integrate FinOps principles into design decisions.

• Provide architectural guidance for AI capabilities, including compute, data access, model serving, and multi-model orchestration.

• Collaborate with AI platform teams to ensure secure and cost-effective infrastructure and guardrails.

• Develop cloud standards that are enforced via automated gates and paved-road defaults.

• Contribute to architecture governance, provide input for technology radar, and participate in design reviews with the Enterprise Architecture team.

• Assess cloud-native services across AWS, GCP, and Azure, and recommend directions for adoption.

• Communicate architecture trade-offs to senior technology leaders and peer architects.

• Mentor Solution Architects and senior engineers during design reviews, even without direct reporting relationships.

• Collaborate with strategic cloud vendors and internal platform teams.

⛳️ Requirements

• Minimum of 12 years in technology, with extensive hands-on cloud architecture experience at the scale of Aetna Technology.

• Expert-level knowledge of AWS architecture, encompassing compute, networking, identity, data, and security.

• Proficient in GCP and Azure.

• Responsible for landing zones, reference architectures, and paved-road/golden-path patterns.

• Strong understanding of cloud security and zero-trust architecture, including identity management, segmentation, and blast radius reduction.

• Familiarity with FinOps and cost-conscious architecture.

• Proven ability to drive technical outcomes through influence and design authority as an individual contributor.

• Experience in healthcare, health insurance, or similarly regulated sectors.

• Practical experience with AI/ML platform infrastructure, including model serving, multi-model orchestration, and supporting compute/data patterns.

• Relevant cloud certifications, such as AWS Solutions Architect Professional.

• Experience with infrastructure-as-code and automated policy/guardrail enforcement.

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
