Principal Backend Software Engineer, TypeScript, Node.js, Distributed Systems

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Mexico.

📋 Description

• Propel the engineering roadmap of a premier SaaS platform focused on sports technology and youth sports management.

• Develop and manage contemporary backend services that facilitate video and content delivery, e-commerce, monetization, scheduling, and team management.

• Take ownership of feature implementation from technical exploration to production deployment.

• Navigate unfamiliar code bases independently, pinpoint dependencies, and comprehend intricate business logic.

• Design distributed, idempotent, event-driven systems along with resilient asynchronous workflows.

• Create clean and maintainable services using TypeScript and Node.js.

• Employ Claude Code and agentic engineering workflows to expedite development, testing, technical exploration, and software quality assurance.

• Collaborate with product and engineering leaders to transform ambiguous requirements into actionable technical solutions.

• Work alongside backend, frontend, mobile, and platform engineering teams.

• Contribute to frontend integration when feature delivery necessitates cross-stack modifications.

⛳️ Requirements

• Over 8 years of experience in production software engineering, focusing on building and operating intricate software systems.

• More than 4 years of hands-on experience in developing backend microservices and REST APIs utilizing TypeScript and Node.js.

• Extensive experience in designing distributed, idempotent, event-driven systems, and resilient asynchronous workflows.

• Practical experience with Express.js.

• Solid understanding of backend architecture, API design, reliability, transaction consistency, and asynchronous processing.

• Proven experience using Claude Code or similar AI-assisted/agentic development tools.

• Capability to independently explore unfamiliar codebases and advance solutions with minimal oversight.

• Strong product insight and the ability to suggest practical technical solutions.

• Experience in designing stable, contract-driven APIs utilized by web and/or native mobile applications.

• Familiarity with AWS, Terraform, Infrastructure as Code, and contemporary DevOps practices.

• Basic knowledge of React.

• Excellent communication skills and a proven track record of effective collaboration within distributed engineering teams.

• Capacity to maintain significant working-hour overlap with Pacific Time (PT).
