Principal Architect

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in California, +7 more states.

📋 Description

• Facilitate technology solutions that align with business strategies and enhance business value.

• Collaborate on the development of roadmaps, architectures, standards, best-practice documents, and reference implementations for starter code.

• Analyze market trends to make informed buy-versus-build decisions.

• Evaluate costs and their impacts on desired business outcomes.

• Outline future-state architecture for AI, APIs, data storage, cloud infrastructure, cloud services, and microservices.

• Partner with technology and business stakeholders to optimize applications and systems utilizing modern architecture and AI.

• Maintain a strategic vision that aligns with CVS Health platform capabilities, business drivers, and technology trends.

• Establish enterprise frameworks that encourage reuse, minimize costs, manage risks, and accelerate time to market.

• Build strong relationships with technology and business partners to foster trust and influence decision-making.

• Provide guidance, direction, and mentorship to engineers and stakeholders regarding application architecture and design.

• Ensure that non-functional requirements such as performance, availability, failover, scalability, and security are satisfied.

• Involve in high-level estimation processes.

• Mentor and coach junior architects while promoting continuous improvement.

⛳️ Requirements

• A minimum of 15 years of relevant work experience, including over 8 years in architecture.

• At least 10 years of experience in developing large-scale business applications utilizing modern technologies and architecture.

• Over 10 years of experience in designing complex integrations with a focus on performance engineering and loose coupling through APIs, microservices, and event-driven architecture.

• No less than 8 years of experience with modern programming languages, frameworks, and technologies.

• At least 6 years of experience in facilitating the implementation of north star architectures through mentoring, POCs, starter code, and collaborative efforts.

• Expert knowledge of architectural methodologies and best practices.

• A recognized technical leader with full-stack technology expertise and a specialization in one or more technical areas.

• Proven experience linking architectural strategies to strategic business decisions.

• Extensive experience in requirements analysis, estimation, systems and application design, and testing.

• Familiarity with defining architecture using the C4 model or similar frameworks.

• In-depth understanding of architectural methodologies, standards, governance, design patterns, and best practices.

• Technical proficiency in AI/ML/Agentic AI, cloud computing, data platforms, hybrid solutions, and large-scale operations.

• Exceptional skills in collaboration, influencing, negotiation, coaching, and coalition-building.

• Bachelor’s degree in computer science or a related field.

• Preferred: experience with Agile methodology or SAFe practices.

• Preferred: experience in AI architecture and the practical application of AI technologies.

• Preferred: experience with Generative AI, Agentic AI, and Ambient Agents.

• Preferred: a self-starter with a natural curiosity.
