Principal Analyst, Sports Analytics

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in New Jersey.

📋 Description

• Develop and take ownership of the analytics strategy for Sports, in alignment with BetMGM's corporate strategy and business objectives.

• Establish and oversee methodological standards for advanced modeling, statistical experimentation, measurement frameworks, and analytical quality assurance.

• Lead the creation of complex, high-impact analytical models, such as propensity, predictive, segmentation, bonus, and promotional evaluation models.

• Drive innovation through machine learning, Bayesian inference, causal modeling, survival analysis, and real-time streaming analytics.

• Act as the organizational authority on sports wagering data structures, market logic, and classification of bet types.

• Champion enterprise-wide data quality efforts, which include cataloging, metadata management, lineage tracking, and optimizing ETL/ELT processes.

• Operationalize analytical outcomes across trading, product development, finance, operations, and compliance departments.

• Establish a company-wide framework for statistical experimentation and impact assessment.

• Analyze strategic commercial priorities, encompassing player economics, revenue focus, VIP retention, promotions, and changes in pricing.

• Identify analytical opportunities and manage a portfolio of influential workstreams while being accountable to executive stakeholders.

• Communicate findings and strategic recommendations to the Senior Leadership Team (SLT) and executive audiences.

• Provide guidance to commercial, product, trading, and finance leadership regarding data-driven strategic decisions.

• Lead and nurture analysts at varying levels of seniority and mentor the broader Data Analytics community.

• Sustain trusted advisory relationships with executive stakeholders and pinpoint future opportunities.

• Spearhead change management initiatives within the data department.

• Develop and scale automation solutions along with self-service analytical capabilities.

⛳️ Requirements

• A minimum of 8 years of commercial experience in analytics, data science, or business intelligence.

• Proven track record in leading enterprise-scale, cross-functional analytical programs both independently and with executive accountability.

• Proficiency in SQL, Python (or R), and data visualization tools.

• Extensive experience in building, deploying, and operationalizing production-quality analytical models at scale.

• Demonstrated success in developing and executing analytics strategies that align with business goals.

• Experience in leading and delivering a portfolio of complex, high-impact projects simultaneously.

• Strong statistical foundation, including experimental design, causal inference techniques, regression modeling, clustering, forecasting, and econometrics.

• Experience in designing and implementing advanced segmentation, propensity, predictive, and causal models in a commercial context.

• Capability to operate as the most senior individual contributor within an analytics function.

• Outstanding communication skills and a strong executive presence.

• In-depth expertise in machine learning, Bayesian inference, survival analysis, and reinforcement learning as applied to customer or wagering data.

• Comprehensive knowledge of major professional sports leagues, betting markets, US sports wagering regulations, and the competitive iGaming landscape.

• Experience in mentoring and developing analysts across various levels of seniority.

• Strong working knowledge of cloud-based data platforms such as Snowflake and DBT.

• Experience leading initiatives focused on data quality, governance, and pipeline optimization.

• Previous experience in a regulated sports betting or iGaming environment is preferred.

• Proficient use of the English language in a business context.

• Legal authorization to work in the U.S. without immigration sponsorship; this role is not eligible for immigration-related employment authorization sponsorship.
