Principal Airborne LiDAR Systems Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Oversee the design and development of embedded software architectures for airborne LiDAR and imaging systems.

• Create and maintain software for sensor control, data acquisition, timing and synchronization, hardware monitoring, communication interfaces, and health/status reporting.

• Specify software requirements and system interfaces across hardware, firmware, and application layers.

• Integrate software with laser subsystems, LiDAR sensors, detector electronics, GNSS/INS systems, cameras, aircraft interfaces, and data storage solutions.

• Assist with laboratory integration, aircraft integration, and operational deployment tasks.

• Direct the development of operator and maintenance interfaces.

• Design software for sensor initialization, mission execution, calibration, diagnostics, and maintenance.

• Collaborate with flight crews and field engineers to enhance operational efficiency and minimize training needs.

• Develop health monitoring and predictive maintenance solutions.

• Establish automated diagnostic and fault-reporting functionalities.

• Aid in root-cause investigations for field issues and system failures.

• Enhance fleet reliability and decrease downtime.

• Create software validation and verification methodologies that support environmental, hardware-in-loop, flight, and factory acceptance testing.

• Analyze software and sensor performance data to uncover improvement opportunities.

• Set software development standards and best practices.

• Mentor software and systems engineers.

• Engage in technology roadmaps and product strategy discussions.

• Assist with customer demonstrations, technical proposals, and executive briefings.

⛳️ Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Aerospace Engineering, Software Engineering, or a related technical field.

• At least 7 years of professional software engineering experience.

• A minimum of 3 years experience working with embedded systems or hardware-integrated software.

• Proven success in leading software development for complex technical systems.

• Experience supporting products from initial concept through to operational deployment.

• Proficiency in C++.

• Proficiency in Python.

• Proficiency in C.

• Proficiency in C#.

• Proficiency in Rust.

• Proficiency in Linux and Embedded Linux.

• Experience with Real-Time Operating Systems (RTOS).

• Familiarity with Qt or similar UI frameworks.

• Knowledge of Ethernet, USB, serial interfaces, CAN Bus, and PCIe.

• Understanding of timing and synchronization systems.

• Knowledge of high-speed data acquisition architectures.

• Experience with Git, CI/CD workflows, automated testing frameworks, and requirements management tools.
