Principal AI – Automation Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Develop and uphold a multi-year roadmap for AI and automation that aligns with Medicare Advantage priorities.

• Collaborate with C-suite executives and senior leadership to identify and prioritize high-return AI and automation initiatives.

• Direct the design and execution of enterprise-level automation solutions, encompassing RPA, workflow orchestration, and process intelligence.

• Set standards and governance protocols for automation development, documentation, and change management.

• Manage the selection and implementation of AI/ML platforms, cloud services, and automation tools.

• Define and uphold engineering best practices, including CI/CD, MLOps, testing, observability, and documentation.

• Work alongside Product, Data Engineering, Clinical Operations, Finance, Compliance, and Security teams to translate business needs into technical solutions.

• Monitor realized business value, factoring in cycle-time reductions, accuracy enhancements, and cost-to-serve metrics.

• Articulate AI and automation strategies, progress updates, and ROI to senior executives and governance bodies.

• Ensure compliance of AI and automation solutions with CMS, HIPAA, and internal governance standards.

• Implement frameworks for bias detection, model explainability, auditability, and change control.

• Oversee the operating budget for AI & Automation Engineering, including cloud expenditures, third-party services, and external partnerships.

• Assess and manage vendor relationships.

• Offer technical leadership, mentorship, and cross-functional guidance without direct reports.

⛳️ Requirements

• 8–12 years of progressive experience in software engineering, data science, or AI/ML roles.

• Minimum of 3–5 years in a senior-level capacity.

• Proven success in delivering production-quality AI/ML systems and large-scale automation solutions within regulated or enterprise environments.

• Extensive expertise in machine learning, NLP, generative AI (LLMs, RAG pipelines), agentic frameworks, and intelligent process automation (RPA and orchestration).

• Experience in managing budgets, vendor relationships, and technology platform decisions at a departmental or functional level.

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer & Electrical Engineering, Mathematics, Data Science, or a related quantitative field; equivalent combinations of education and proven experience are acceptable.

• Demonstrated senior-level proficiency in AI/ML engineering practices, cloud platforms, and enterprise automation.

• Practical knowledge of cloud AI/ML governance and platform management (AWS, Azure, or GCP) at a leadership level.

• In-depth, hands-on knowledge of the complete AI/ML lifecycle, including model design, training, deployment, monitoring, and MLOps.

• Proven capability to define and govern enterprise automation strategies using RPA platforms and orchestration tools.

• Expert-level familiarity with AWS SageMaker, Azure AI / Document Intelligence, Google Cloud Vertex AI, or Databricks.

• Comprehensive understanding of HIPAA, CMS regulations, and data governance within regulated healthcare environments.

• Advanced knowledge of healthcare AI use cases such as risk adjustment, payment integrity, clinical NLP, and member engagement.

• Experience delivering presentations to boards, C-suite executives, and governance bodies.

• Applied leadership experience with ethical AI frameworks, including bias detection, model explainability, auditability, and responsible AI program design.
