PowerBuilder Developer – Specialist

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Brazil.

📋 Description

• Design, maintain, and enhance solutions utilizing PowerBuilder, .NET, and relational databases.

• Act as a technical resource for the development team.

• Facilitate architectural discussions and assist in the development of intricate components.

• Collaborate closely with architects and technical leaders to enhance the platform.

• Evaluate technical implications and provide guidance on decisions aimed at long-term sustainability.

• Actively engage in code reviews and advocate for best practices.

• Assist in minimizing technical debt and consistently improving application quality.

• Create implementations, fixes, and new functionalities for the system.

• Conduct root-cause analyses to resolve highly complex issues.

• Produce tests and technical documentation, while supporting the team in product maintenance.

• Participate in Agile ceremonies and work alongside cross-functional teams.

• Aid in managing deadlines, particularly for requirements tied to legal and tax obligations.

⛳️ Requirements

• Proficiency in PowerBuilder, .NET, and relational databases.

• Extensive experience in developing desktop applications using PowerBuilder.

• Comprehensive understanding of DataWindows, PFC (PowerBuilder Foundation Classes), and integration with relational databases.

• Experience with large-scale PowerBuilder applications comprising millions of lines of code and catering to a significant user base.

• Experience in scaled environments with a minimum of 5 million lines of code and tens of thousands of users.

• Knowledge of Sybase SQL Anywhere, PostgreSQL, and SQL Server.

• Experience with stored procedures, triggers, views, and SQL query optimization.

• Ability to manage large data volumes while considering the constraints of 32-bit PowerBuilder.

• Experience with .NET and integration between PowerBuilder and .NET.

• Understanding of garbage collection and interoperability among technologies.

• Practical experience with threads in PowerBuilder and .NET.

• Experience in projects aimed at modernizing or migrating PowerBuilder applications to contemporary architectures.

• Application of design patterns such as MVC, Repository, Factory, and Singleton.

• Knowledge and implementation of SOLID principles.

• Experience in refactoring and reducing coupling.

• Familiarity with Clean Code and software development best practices.

• Standardization of technical documentation, naming conventions, and code quality.

• Strong analytical skills for interpreting and evolving legacy code.

• Experience in roles such as Staff Engineer, Principal Engineer, or Technical Lead.

• Proven experience providing technical leadership for development squads.

• Participation in technical quality initiatives and efforts to reduce technical debt.

• Experience in influencing architectural decisions and leading improvements in structural systems.

• Ability to mentor developers and elevate the technical capabilities of teams.

• Familiarity with Agile methodologies (Scrum or Kanban).

• Active involvement in Agile ceremonies.

• Experience with Jira, Azure DevOps, or similar tools.

• Proficiency with Git, pull requests, and version control strategies.

• Advanced English skills for reading and writing technical documentation.
