This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Canada.
• Conduct power system analyses such as load flow, short circuit, protective device coordination, arc flash, grounding, power quality, harmonic analysis, transient analysis, and reliability evaluations.
• Create and sustain electrical system models utilizing software platforms like PSCAD, ETAP, SKM PowerTools, EasyPower, or equivalent tools.
• Execute electromagnetic transient (EMT) studies related to switching events, faults, utility disturbances, and significant load variations.
• Assess high-density AI and mission-critical electrical loads that impact utility systems, emergency generation, UPS systems, and facility infrastructure.
• Assist in utility interconnection studies and liaise with utility providers.
• Analyze system reliability, redundancy plans, contingency scenarios, and the resilience of power systems.
• Compile technical reports, engineering calculations, study documentation, and provide engineering recommendations.
• Work collaboratively with electrical design teams on medium-voltage systems, substations, standby generation, UPS systems, mechanical electrical loads, and utility infrastructure.
• Engage in design coordination meetings with clients, consultants, utility providers, and project stakeholders.
• Aid in commissioning activities and offer technical expertise throughout project execution.
• Review engineering outputs for technical precision, quality, and adherence to relevant industry standards.
• A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited institution.
• 8 to 15 years of experience in power systems engineering, utility engineering, substations, transmission and distribution, industrial facilities, renewable energy, mining, or mission-critical infrastructure.
• Proven experience in conducting transient, harmonic, grounding, load flow, short circuit, protective device coordination, and arc flash studies.
• Proficiency in PSCAD is mandatory.
• Familiarity with ETAP, SKM PowerTools, EasyPower, DIgSILENT PowerFactory, CYME, or similar power system analysis software is desirable.
• Strong grasp of electrical power systems, utility infrastructure, substations, protective relaying, and system reliability.
• Experience with utility interconnections and medium-voltage power systems.
• Knowledge of underground duct bank ampacity and heat studies using the Neher-McGrath methodology is advantageous.
• Registration as a Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) in Canada, or eligibility for registration, is a plus.
• Comprehensive understanding of the Canadian Electrical Code (CEC), CSA standards, IEEE standards, utility requirements, and relevant provincial electrical regulations.
• Familiarity with U.S. codes and standards (NEC, NFPA, IEEE) is a benefit.
• Exceptional technical writing, analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills, with the capability to present technical findings and recommendations to clients.
• Experience aiding data center, utility, industrial, or other large-scale infrastructure projects is highly valued.
• Must possess legal authorization to work in Canada.
