Port Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Washington.

📋 Description

• The Port Engineer plays a crucial role in achieving the company's technical objectives.

• Responsible for ensuring vessels are technically prepared for operations, performing preventative maintenance, maintaining critical spare parts, and minimizing downtime.

• Develop, oversee, and implement preventive and corrective maintenance schedules.

• Collaborate with shipyards, contractors, and vendors for repair and dry-docking activities.

• Diagnose and resolve technical issues pertaining to mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic systems.

• Ensure vessels are maintained in optimal condition to fulfill operational schedules and mission requirements.

• Conduct regular inspections to confirm that vessels meet both company and client standards.

• Create and manage annual budgets for vessel maintenance and repair operations.

• Monitor and control technical operational costs, ensuring cost-efficient solutions.

• Maintain precise records of spare parts and equipment inventory.

• Oversee class inspections, surveys, and certifications to ensure compliance.

• Stay informed about regulatory changes that affect vessel operations.

• Develop and maintain relationships with shipyards, repair facilities, and parts suppliers.

• Review and authorize contractor scopes of work, bids, and invoices.

• Coordinate logistics for on-site contractors during maintenance or repair projects.

• Work closely with vessel chief engineers to plan and conduct crew training on technical systems and safety protocols.

• Collaborate with the HR department to ensure technical crew members are qualified and certified in accordance with industry standards.

⛳️ Requirements

• A minimum of ten (10) years of experience as a port engineer is essential for this position.

• At least five (5) years of sailing experience in an engineering capacity is required.

• A valid USCG engineer’s license or Designated Duty Engineer (DDE) license is preferred.

• A High School Diploma or a GED Certificate is mandatory.

• A BA/BS degree or equivalent professional experience is required.

• Must be capable of lifting up to 20 pounds and occasionally up to 30 pounds.

• The individual should be prepared to work in production areas within shipyards and onboard vessels.

• Ability to walk to and from job sites is necessary.

• The candidate must be able to climb inclined stairways and vertical ladders, access confined spaces and tanks, and work at heights.

• A valid Driver’s License, Passport, and the ability to obtain a TWIC are required.
