This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Australia.

📋 Description

• Take ownership and lead regulatory advisory workstreams, offering strategic insights on how changing laws affect Twilio’s products, services, marketing strategies, and customer communications.

• Collaborate closely with Product, Engineering, Commercial, and Go-To-Market teams to evaluate risks, develop compliant strategies, and assist teams in confidently delivering their projects.

• Lead proactive regulatory initiatives by identifying forthcoming reforms, planning for transitions, and equipping the business with clear, actionable plans to meet new requirements.

• Provide support in additional practice areas as necessary, including cybersecurity and privacy workstreams, as well as reviewing, drafting, and aiding a diverse array of regional priorities.

• Offer advice in a concise and practical manner for non-legal stakeholders, enabling leaders to grasp actionable steps instead of lengthy memos.

• Direct and manage external counsel as needed, which includes defining project scopes, overseeing timelines, and ensuring budget adherence.

• Enhance the scalability of the legal function by contributing to templates, self-service guidance, managing administrative tasks, improving processes, and elevating legal operations for team efficiency.

• Cultivate strong internal relationships to become a trusted business partner capable of influencing, persuading, and aligning stakeholders on pragmatic legal outcomes.

• Actively monitor regulatory changes and keep precise updates in internal systems such as Airtable.


⛳️ Requirements

• Possess a JD, LL.B., or equivalent degree, or have equivalent practical experience.

• Have 6 - 8 years of post-qualification experience (PQE).

• Experience in law, policy, or regulatory matters in Australia, New Zealand, Singapore, or another relevant APJ jurisdiction.

• Understanding of telecommunications and tech regulatory frameworks in the APJ region, or familiarity with other highly regulated sectors such as financial services or energy.

• Experience advising on regulatory compliance matters within a law firm, in-house, or government agency.

• Exhibit a collaborative mindset, positively enhancing team dynamics while also being capable of working independently and driving initiatives autonomously.

• Strong critical thinking skills, good judgment, and the ability to prioritize and manage resources effectively to deliver on multiple concurrent projects.

• Take charge of workstreams by maintaining clear task overviews, tracking deadlines, and collaborating with the broader team to ensure execution.

• Demonstrate exceptional organizational skills by coordinating across internal functions and ensuring timely completion of priorities, while actively contributing to execution.

• Familiarity and experience in drafting regulatory filings and legislative consultation submissions.

• Experience managing responses to regulatory communications, enforcement actions, and other regulatory inquiries and consultations.
