Platform Engineer, Cloud Ops Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Egypt, +1 more country.

📋 Description

• Lead the design and implementation of intricate multi-cloud solutions utilizing GCP and AWS.

• Establish platform standards and reusable frameworks, including Terraform modules and cluster blueprints.

• Assess emerging cloud technologies to refine the cloud strategy and roadmap.

• Drive cost efficiency and FinOps practices through right-sizing and governance measures.

• Oversee platform reliability, scalability, capacity planning, and disaster recovery strategies.

• Deploy, configure, and manage cloud infrastructure across both GCP and AWS.

• Author and maintain infrastructure as code using Terraform, CloudFormation, and ARM where relevant.

• Ensure infrastructure consistency across development, staging, and production environments.

• Automate provisioning, configuration, and operational processes.

• Design, operate, and support production-grade Kubernetes clusters, ideally GKE.

• Manage Kubernetes upgrades, autoscaling, node pools, namespaces, and RBAC policies.

• Establish Helm/Kustomize standards for application deployment.

• Support or manage Istio service mesh for traffic management, mTLS, observability, and security.

• Define and advocate for golden paths to ensure safe and consistent application deployment.

• Build and maintain GitLab CI/CD pipelines for infrastructure and application delivery.

• Monitor platform health using Datadog metrics, logs, traces, SLOs, and alerts.

• Troubleshoot issues, assist in incident response, and lead post-incident reviews.

• Maintain runbooks and dashboards while leading or supporting on-call rotations.

• Mentor junior and mid-level engineers, set technical direction, and review design proposals.

• Collaborate with global, cross-functional, and on/offshore teams.

• Communicate architectural decisions to both technical and business stakeholders.

⛳️ Requirements

• Platform Engineer: Minimum of 3 years in cloud infrastructure/platform or DevOps engineering.

• Senior Platform Engineer: At least 8 years, with leadership or architect-level responsibilities.

• Extensive, hands-on experience with GCP and/or AWS cloud platforms.

• Strong production experience with Kubernetes, preferably GKE.

• Expert-level skills in Terraform with reusable modules and multi-environment IaC.

• Demonstrated CI/CD automation experience at scale.

• Capability to troubleshoot complex issues in cloud environments.

• Collaborative mindset with a focus on teamwork and strong communication skills.

• Nice to have: Google Professional Cloud Architect, AWS Solutions Architect Professional, or Certified Kubernetes Administrator (CKA).

• Experience with GitOps and progressive delivery methodologies.

• Previous experience in a FinOps or cloud cost optimization role.

• Background in scripting for automation and Linux system administration.
