Physician Coder Specialist – GI

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Louisiana.

📋 Description

• Conduct a thorough review and accurately assign codes for professional services, including evaluation and management, procedures, outpatient surgeries, and observation patients.

• Allocate ICD-10, CPT, and/or HCPCS codes in accordance with established guidelines.

• Examine medical documentation to ensure it substantiates the assigned codes.

• Investigate patient accounts to address inquiries and rectify errors.

• Achieve departmental productivity and accuracy benchmarks.

• Engage with providers to obtain clarification or additional documentation as needed.

• Collaborate with team members and various departments to fulfill monthly departmental objectives, such as DNFB, Pre-AR, denials, and claim edits.

• Confirm the correct discharge disposition when applicable.

• Maintain awareness of relevant laws, accreditation standards, and regulatory requirements.

• Report any known or suspected unethical practices, privacy issues, safety concerns, or compliance-related matters.

⛳️ Requirements

• High School diploma or equivalent qualification.

• Minimum of 1 year of coding experience.

• Proficient computer skills and dexterity for data entry and patient information retrieval.

• Strong verbal and written communication abilities.

• Familiarity with Windows-style applications, specific software packages, and keyboard usage.

• Understanding of ICD-9-CM, ICD-10, CPT, HCPCS, and coding principles.

• Competency in decision-making, problem-solving, analytical thinking, and quality management.

• Ability to adhere to Medicare, Medicaid, third-party payer, and federal, state, and local regulations.
