PHP Developer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Poland.

📋 Description

• Design, develop, and maintain backend functionalities within the Core Platform utilizing PHP 8.4, Laminas Mezzio, Doctrine, and MySQL.

• Provide backend capabilities through well-structured REST APIs.

• Employ AI coding agents on a daily basis for implementation, test generation, refactoring, and navigating legacy codebases.

• Enhance documentation, conventions, testing methodologies, tooling, MCP servers, and agent instructions to boost team productivity.

• Take responsibility for the correctness, design quality, and security of merged code.

• Deploy features with dashboards and alerts, monitor their performance, and engage in operational health activities.

• Utilize AI to expedite incident triage, log analysis, and root-cause investigations.

• Modernize the platform through gradual refactoring and the removal of outdated components.

• Investigate and resolve bugs and escalations as they arise.

• Collaborate with QA on shift-left strategies and AI-assisted test automation.

• Engage in code reviews, design discussions, and PHP Guild alignment.

• Share AI workflows, prompts, and insights across squads in a remote-first international team.

⛳️ Requirements

• AI-first engineering practice: daily, proficient use of AI coding assistants (Claude Code, Copilot, Cursor), including effective prompting and critical evaluation of generated code.

• Strong proficiency in modern PHP (8.x) with solid OOP and SOLID design principles.

• Capability to independently deliver solutions using a mainstream PHP framework with Doctrine or another ORM.

• Expertise in MySQL query optimization.

• Familiarity with REST API design and consumption.

• Experience in automated testing with PHPUnit and a TDD approach.

• Confidence in navigating and incrementally refactoring large legacy codebases, increasingly with AI assistance.

• Ownership of features from ticket creation through to production, maintaining a focus on quality and reliability.

• Strong written communication skills and the ability to work autonomously in a remote-first, agile environment.
