This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.
• Identify low to moderate priority performance issues within a complex application environment, including debugging errors and analyzing logs and stack traces.
• Collaborate with various divisions (support, sales engineering, etc.) to remain informed about Ignition's performance and gather insights on common customer setups across diverse industries.
• Debug multiple areas of the technology stack (Web Browser, Java applications, Mobile applications) to assess resource utilization.
• Leverage tools like Wireshark for traffic filtering and packet analysis to resolve network-related performance challenges.
• Employ quick application development and infrastructure deployment tools (Docker, Vagrant, Terraform) to replicate various production environments.
• Establish and query SQL databases (MS SQL Server, MySQL) to evaluate data integrity and query efficiency.
• Demonstrate a solid proficiency in relevant Ignition product areas while thoroughly testing all components.
• Maintain a comprehensive understanding of the company, our primary software product (Ignition), and our client base.
• Work alongside Developers, Product Managers, and QA Generalists to clarify requirements and provide feedback on functionality, usability, and performance.
• Identify, document, and track defects using issue tracking tools, ensuring effective communication and resolution processes.
• Stay abreast of industry trends, tools, and technologies to continually enhance testing methodologies.
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science/Engineering or a minimum of 4 years of experience in a related field.
• At least 2+ years of experience in a test automation engineering role with a focus on performance testing.
• Performance testing experience in various areas:
• Proficiency in tools such as JMeter, K6, or Gatling.
• Familiarity with APM tools like Grafana/Prometheus.
• Strong understanding of HTTP/HTTPS protocols and REST APIs.
• Good programming knowledge and proficiency in at least one language, including an understanding of functions, conditional statements, and basic object-oriented concepts (Python, Java/JavaScript, C++).
• Excellent troubleshooting abilities within a complex application environment, including debugging errors, identifying performance issues, analyzing logs and stack traces, and establishing reproducible steps for issues.
• Experience coding in at least one modern IDE (Eclipse, IntelliJ IDEA, PyCharm).
• Familiarity with the Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC) and its various phases.
• Proficient in source control management systems, such as Git, including common practices (cloning and checking out repositories and specific branches, committing changes, and resolving merge conflicts).
• Experience in setting up and querying SQL databases (MS SQL Server, MySQL, or similar).
• Knowledge of Windows, Linux (Ubuntu), and macOS platforms, including command line operations and debugging applications running as a service.
• Experience deploying applications using virtualization software (VMWare, Docker Desktop, Kubernetes), including creating images, debugging running containers, and managing persistent data (volumes).
