Performance Engineer – Benchmarking

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants anywhere in the world.

📋 Description

• Develop and enhance tools for benchmarking, profiling, and load testing across cloud, database, and end-to-end systems.

• Create benchmark suites and reference workloads that accurately represent real customer interactions, updating them as products evolve.

• Set performance baselines and regression thresholds for products, including variance tracking, environmental control, and change detection.

• Implement systems that convert benchmark outcomes into actionable insights: triage processes, owner assignment, and precise, reproducible reports.

• Collaborate closely with database teams (e.g., Multigres, OrioleDB) to identify performance bottlenecks and achieve tangible improvements.

• Enable the organization to provide trustworthy, repeatable performance metrics for both customers and the market.

• Equip teams to conduct their own performance testing and prioritize performance as a vital engineering aspect.

• Establish our continuous benchmarking infrastructure to allow product teams to identify performance regressions promptly.

• Investigate and resolve issues related to load generators, workloads, or benchmark environments to ensure benchmarks reliably reflect actual product performance.

• Create regression triage tools that identify *what changed* (including diffing, profiles/traces, and query-level attribution).

• Assist product teams in analyzing the root causes of performance regressions within benchmark environments independently.

• Extensive experience in performance engineering, benchmarking, and profiling complex distributed systems.

• Strong understanding of systems (databases, storage, networking, cloud infrastructure).

• Ability to work collaboratively across product, infrastructure, and database teams.

• Practical, tooling-focused mindset complemented by exceptional communication skills.
