PDF Annotation, Transcription Expert – Japanese

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Japan, +3 more countries.

📋 Description

• Review and verify assigned Japanese PDF pages for language accuracy, readability, actual content, and the absence of personal information.

• Identify and delineate every significant page region, including titles, headings, paragraphs, lists, tables, figures, diagrams, captions, formulas, questions, and answer fields.

• Assign component types and establish reading-order indexes.

• Connect regions to corresponding figures or tables using parent component identifiers.

• Accurately transcribe all text as presented, encompassing kanji, hiragana, katakana, furigana, and handwritten content.

• Highlight any illegible areas.

• Capture metadata including language, document type, source, page dimensions, and details on tables, formulas, and handwriting.

• Conduct thorough reviews of colleagues' work as a secondary Japanese expert when qualified.

• Contribute to human-generated training data for document AI models.

⛳️ Requirements

• Must be a native Japanese speaker with complete proficiency in kanji, hiragana, and katakana, including furigana and various character forms.

• Professional background in interpretation, journalism, transcription, translation, editorial tasks, or similar document-heavy roles.

• Exceptional attention to detail and character-level accuracy.

• Capability to apply a taxonomy consistently throughout numerous pages.

• Familiarity with vertical text, multi-column newspapers, examination papers, and handwritten forms.

• Proficiency in Japanese is essential; all annotation and transcription tasks are conducted in Japanese.

• Must operate as an independent contractor.

• Currently unable to accommodate H1-B or STEM OPT candidates.
