This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Alabama, +4 more states.
• Oversee, mentor, and develop a team of 3 Payroll Specialists; conduct regular one-on-one meetings, establish objectives, and lead performance evaluations.
• Distribute entity and workload responsibilities among the team, ensuring a balance between complexity and coverage risk.
• Foster a positive team environment with clear accountability and established career advancement pathways.
• Act as the primary escalation point for all payroll inquiries, exceptions, and processing challenges during US business hours.
• Supervise comprehensive payroll processing cycles across all 5 US legal entities, guaranteeing precision and timely delivery.
• Conduct final reviews and approvals on payroll runs prior to funding; serve as a hands-on processor for complex or high-risk entities.
• Manage off-cycle payroll runs, retroactive adjustments, and calculations related to terminations.
• Oversee the payroll calendar to ensure all deadlines are consistently met across entities.
• Ensure adherence to federal, state, and local payroll tax regulations in all jurisdictions.
• Maintain SOX controls documentation and assist with internal and external audits.
• Handle year-end operations including W-2 production, reconciliations, and tax filings.
• Track legislative and regulatory changes impacting US payroll; implement necessary process modifications.
• Maintain daily relationships with payroll system vendors, tax filing agents, and benefits administrators.
• Collaborate with HR, Finance, Legal, and Benefits teams as the key US payroll contact.
• Prepare and present payroll metrics, exception reports, and KPIs to the Global Payroll Director and senior stakeholders.
• Identify and spearhead process improvement initiatives to boost accuracy, efficiency, and control measures.
• Assist with system upgrades, new entity setups, and payroll integrations related to mergers and acquisitions.
• Contribute to the global payroll strategy and standardization projects.
• Over 7 years of experience in US payroll, covering multi-state and multi-entity settings.
• At least 2 years in a supervisory or team leadership position with direct management responsibilities.
• Extensive knowledge of US federal and state payroll tax regulations, wage and hour laws, and year-end compliance procedures.
• Practical experience with enterprise payroll systems, specifically Workday Payroll.
• Experience working within SOX-compliant environments.
• Certification as a CPP (Certified Payroll Professional) and Workday Payroll certification are required.
• Proficiency in advanced Excel skills and familiarity with Power BI is preferred.
