
Payroll and Accounting Specialist

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Alaska, +9 more states.
• Support the CFO with various payroll and accounting functions.
• Collaborate with HR and Accounting to facilitate payroll processing.
• Submit payroll to the PEO/payroll service provider.
• Respond to employee inquiries concerning payroll matters.
• Keep track of PTO using spreadsheets.
• Monitor raises and cumulative hours for CSPs.
• Manage full-time status tracking for ACA compliance and benefits.
• Oversee annual benefit renewal processes.
• Track CSP login time and minutes spent in conversations.
• Update and improve the payroll and/or PEO portal.
• Create programs to inform employees about available benefits.
• Collaborate with the PEO/payroll provider to discuss available benefits.
• Assess benefits in preparation for annual renewals.
• Assist the HR and Culture Specialist with initiatives to enhance corporate culture.
• Investigate social events, recognition programs, charity involvement, and health/life/work enhancement initiatives.
• Partner with the culture committee to design cultural programs.
• Research and document tax issues related to state Nexus and potential sales and/or income tax implications of hiring employees in other states.
• Create and manage departmental documents, including the Employee Handbook, Operations manuals, policies, procedures, and KB articles.
• Attend Human Resource and Culture seminars to explore current trends.
• Assist with approved HR and Accounting projects.
• Support retention directives, standards, and communications.
• Maintain knowledge of company, industry, and team functions.
• Engage in meetings, workshops, and opportunities for career development.
• Build and sustain a professional network through LinkedIn, NAEO, ATSI, and other resources.
• Perform additional tasks as required.
• Maintain a standard 40-hour work week from Monday to Friday, between 8:00 AM and 6:00 PM Eastern Time.
• At least 2 years of experience in payroll processing and accounts payable, or 1 year of related work experience combined with a degree in Accounting.
• Strong grasp of payroll processing.
• Solid understanding of benefits administration.
• Exceptional problem-solving capabilities.
• Excellent organizational skills and meticulous attention to detail.
• Ability to handle confidential information responsibly.
• Outstanding written and verbal communication skills.
• Comfortable working independently as well as collaboratively in a Zoom setting.
• Fully remote work arrangement using a secure home office.
• Must be authorized to work in the US.
• Must reside in Alaska, Colorado, Delaware, Florida, Georgia, Indiana, Montana, Nevada, North Carolina, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, or Wyoming.
