Packaging Engineer III

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Kentucky, +1 more state.

📋 Description

• Assist and/or oversee the design, installation, and commissioning of manufacturing lines concentrating on the packaging operations of consumer goods.

• Strengthen the overall project team by participating as a member of the packaging team on intricate, fully integrated projects of varying sizes.

• Aid the technical lead in all aspects of packaging systems design and integration development, which includes line and equipment speed analysis, pack out matrix, block flow and general arrangement layout drawings, equipment lists, utility demand matrices, and procurement specifications/approvals.

• Create equipment lists and data sheets, block flow diagrams, process flow diagrams, and P&IDs as required.

• Capability to perform under pressure and manage conflicting priorities with minimal supervision.

• Ability to generate independent ideas and propose alternatives to enhance efficiency.

• Actively contribute to sales and business development initiatives.

• Draft written sequences of operation narratives for equipment, systems, and process controls.

• Support the creation of vendor and contractor bid and construction packages for project equipment, components, and installations, along with bid analysis.

• Regular travel is a standard expectation for this role, depending on project locations, customer needs, project execution stages, and your role in the project.

• The average travel expectations for this position range from 20% to 40%.


⛳️ Requirements

• Bachelor of Science Degree in mechanical, industrial, or packaging systems engineering.

• Over 5 years of proven professional experience in Packaging Equipment Systems Engineering or a related field.

• Experience working with professional engineering service providers and/or in manufacturing within food and beverage, life sciences, CPG, pharmaceuticals, or other related sectors is advantageous.

• Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, are essential to facilitate proactive coordination across all project disciplines.

• Proficiency in MS Office is required.

• Advanced Excel skills are a plus.

• Experience with 2D CAD is desirable.

• Background in large capital project engineering/management, particularly in detailed packaging system design, preferably related to food and beverage processing lines or similar transferable expertise.

• Strong understanding of automation control systems (PLC, HMI, VFDs, etc.) is beneficial.

• Ability to thrive in a highly collaborative and cohesive team environment, including interactions with Gray AES, other teams within the Gray family of companies, or external partner companies.

• Capability to independently assess existing processing operations and propose solutions that enhance ROI and productivity.

• Ability to carry out engineering tasks independently with minimal oversight.
