This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Illinois.
• Educate local communities about environmental challenges and potential solutions.
• Listen to the needs of the community and communicate them to our policy and program teams.
• Empower advocacy initiatives that promote environmental and racial justice.
• Foster connections between communities for collaboration, support, and shared learning opportunities.
• Actively engage and take a leadership role in environmental coalitions.
• Build and nurture relationships with Houses of Worship, community leaders, and partner organizations.
• Provide support for local projects underway in your area.
• Organize and facilitate educational events and workshops that align with the three program areas.
• Encourage community participation in advocacy campaigns within your region.
• Communicate community insights and concerns to internal policy and program teams.
• Consistently track and report on outreach activities, events, expenses, and time.
• Participate in staff meetings and team retreats.
• Must currently reside in or have roots in the specified locations.
• A strong passion for climate action, environmental justice, and racial/economic equity.
• Excellent verbal communication skills, including experience with large groups, small-group facilitation, and one-on-one interactions.
• Ability to work respectfully with individuals from diverse backgrounds, faiths/spiritualities, and political perspectives.
• Proficient storytelling and writing skills to convey complex issues in an engaging and understandable manner.
• Proven cultural humility and capacity to work across various identities including race, faith, class, and political affiliation.
• Strong organizational skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines and objectives.
• Experience in public speaking and facilitation, with the capability to lead workshops or training sessions.
• Comfort with standard business software/apps and a readiness to learn and proficiently use Microsoft Teams, Monday.com, and BambooHR.
• A commitment to inspiring individuals and communities to take action.
• 3-5 years of relevant experience in community organizing.
• Reliable vehicle for regular local travel (mileage reimbursement is available).
• Access to a personal cell phone.
