Outpatient Coder II

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in New York.

📋 Description

• Review outpatient services, with a focus on surgical, emergency, oncology, and wound care medical records, to accurately assign the appropriate CPT, HCPCS, and ICD-10 codes.

• Ensure that the coded information is complete and accurate for billing and reimbursement objectives.

• Remain informed about coding guidelines, regulations, and compliance requirements relevant to outpatient services.

• Collaborate with physicians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to resolve coding discrepancies and procure additional documentation when needed.

• Work alongside the Revenue Integrity team to identify and tackle coding-related issues that impact revenue cycle performance.

• Provide constructive feedback and training to clinical and administrative staff regarding best practices in coding and documentation.

• Engage in coding audits and initiatives aimed at quality improvement.

• Stay updated with changes in coding systems, reimbursement methodologies, and healthcare regulations.

⛳️ Requirements

• A minimum of 3 years of outpatient coding experience within a hospital environment, ideally with Meditech EHR.

• Comprehensive understanding of CPT, HCPCS, and ICD-10 coding systems.

• Familiarity with outpatient billing processes and reimbursement methodologies.

• Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities.

• Exceptional communication and interpersonal abilities.

• Capacity to work both independently and cooperatively in a team setting.

• Proficient in utilizing Meditech or comparable electronic health record (EHR) systems.

• AHIMA Certification is mandatory.

• Certification as a Coding Specialist (CCS) or Certified Professional Coder (CPC) is preferred.

• Ability to endure prolonged periods of sitting and extensive computer use.
