Opto-Mechanical Designer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Texas.

📋 Description

• Accountable for the design and modeling of mechanical components that interface with optical elements such as lenses, mirrors, diffractive elements, and filters.

• Create and model the mechanical mechanisms necessary for mounting and positioning optical elements within an optical system.

• Generate detailed drawings of optical elements and the comprehensive optical system, along with fabrication and assembly drawings for mechanical hardware and optical assemblies.

⛳️ Requirements

• T/SCI Secret Clearance.

• Education: Bachelor's Degree with 3 years of experience or an equivalent combination totaling over 7 years of related experience.

• Specialized knowledge in the mechanical design of mounts and the modeling of opto-mechanical systems.

• Proficient in CAD software, including SolidWorks and NX.

• Capable of managing all phases of opto-mechanical subsystems, from conceptual design layout to package prototyping and fixture/tooling design.

• Develop assembly and testing procedures, providing support for all levels of optical subsystem integration and testing.

• Assist in trade studies and recommend system architecture and design methodologies.

• Perform analysis and evaluation of design concepts to produce realistic assessments of development and manufacturing risks.

• Collaborate with fellow engineers, technicians, manufacturing, and quality engineers in a team-oriented environment.

• Prepare and present technical information and support project-level reviews.

• Previous experience with NASA or other roles related to space flight hardware.
